Volta ’11 – Richard Colman @ V1 Gallery

Another great artist to be featured at this year’s VOLTA fair’s solo format was Richard Colman (interviewed). Represented at Copenhagen’s V1 Gallery booth, the San Francisco based artist impressed us with a diverse selection of his signature colorful and geometric works. Check it out after the jump.

We recently attended the opening of Hueless, a group show of black and white works at Malick Williams & Co. Although the exhibition may have lacked color, it certainly did not lack artistry, with an exciting selection of monochromatic pieces by the likes of D Face, Shepard Fairey, Erik Haze, Curtis Kulig, Pete Watts and Skullphone. Videos: Jonathan Yeo – “Porn in the USA”

Remember back in July of last year, when Jonathan Yeo brought his series of works and portraits created from collaged pornography to Beverly Hills. It was part of a series of shows put on by Steve Lazarides in a temporary gallery and was entitled “Porn in the USA” (covered). Apparently, they were filming the whole time. Take a look above as Yeo and Lazarides are interviewed – all with the backdrop of some nice behind-the-scenes footage.

Capping off an awesome Armory week opening at Bryce Wolkowitz, José Parlá & Standard New York held an intimate signing for the hometown fans. Held at the exclusive Boom Boom Room roof top lounge, fans enjoyed breathtaking views while they hung out at “José’s corner”. Mr. Parlá merrily greeted each supporter with the love and respect that we’ve come to expect from the humble artist. AM recently got to attend a book signing at the David Zwirner gallery and catch Marcel Dzama’s book signing session. Held on a sunday afternoon, we caught up with Marcel as he graciously spoke and signed books for those that attended. Marcel also took some time to draw a beautiful little sketch for fans who patiently waited in a two hour queue. The year is going by fast – it’s already the middle of March. As usual, there are many interesting art openings to get out to this weekend including a show from Miss Van in France. Magda Danysz Gallery will be hosting Twinkles, a new body of work from the French street artist who hasn’t shown in her home country in a while. Teasers: Lamar Peterson @ Fredericks & Freiser

Opening tonight at Chelsea’s Fredericks & Freiser Gallery is the latest solo exhibition by talented painter Lamar Peterson. Peterson, who has shown with Deitch Projects and LA’s Richard Heller Gallery, works in bright hyper-real colors to create surrealistic and cartoonish portrayals of characters—often African American families—which are at once humorous and unsettling. In recent bodies of work, he has expanded his range beyond painting to include collage and mixed media pieces, so we’re very excited to see what he has in store for this show.
