José Parlá, whose artwork is rarely exhibited in Los Angeles, will soon provide the West Coast with a spectacular visual treat as Martha Otero will feature his massively-sized (42″ by 116.5″) Flux in their Legal Tender group exhibition. Opening: DZINE – “Voodoo” @ Leo Koenig Projekte

Chicago-based artist Dzine recently opened a solo show entitled “Voodoo” at NY’s Leo Koenig Projekte. The inspiration for this current body of work came from the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao, during Dzine’s residency at the Instituto Buena Bista, Curaçao’s Center for Contemporary Art. While there, he stumbled upon Swaybar, a unique aspect of the island’s popular culture in which youth create custom elongated bicycles as both transportation and status symbols. Rosson Crow (featured) recently opened her exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati (CAC) to a excited Ohio crowd. The show entitled “Myth of the American Motorcycle” (previewed) centered around the classic highway icon and it’s effect on American culture. Rosson underwent an intense study of the biker lifestyle the year prior in anticipation for this show. Tonight at Corey Helford Gallery, Melissa Forman will be opening her show “Keepers of Creation” consisting of 16 new paintings. Forman’ mystical female portraiture sets out to portray the characters as protectors of natural world and are wonderfully detailed. Some weeks back, AM spent time with Ernesto Yerena Montejano at his garage studio in Los Angeles. Over the course of three and a half years, until summer 2009, Yerena worked as an artist assistant for Shepard Fairey at both Studio Number One and Studio Number Two (featured). We were able to have a look around as he now prepared for GANAS 2020, his debut solo show which opens this Saturday, November 13th at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco and runs until December 4th.
