2010 Whitney Annual Gala & Studio Party

AM recently attended the Whitney American Museum’s Annual Gala and Studio Party celebration. The focus was to raise funds to continue the goal of supporting emerging and established American artists. This Saturday night, November 13th, Carmichael Gallery will be holding a “Block Party” in Culver City with a group exhibition from Boxi, Krystian Truth Czaplicki, Gregor Gaida, Simon Haas, Sixeart, and Dan Witz. Some of you may be more familiar with Witz’ eye-catching street work, but his apparently his fine art skills will be in full effect with a continuation of his series of paintings on the study of light. Like Basel week for Switzerland and Armory week for New York, London has a signature week for art and it’s centralized around the Frieze Art Fair. Last weekend, Subliminal Projects played host to “Pattern Recognition”, a group exhibition from a great set of artists including Seonna Hong, Nikki McClure, Dalek (interviewed), Richard Colman (interviewed), and Souther Salazar. Particularly eye catching for us were the colorful works of Seonna and Souther although the works of Dalek and Colman seemed to fit the premise of the show a little more closely. Apparently, that mural Ron English (featured) was working on in Miami that we first brought you here is completed. He ended with a cool extension of the wall piece onto the ground and with the placement of some of his “Camo Deer” figures.
