Streets: COPE2 – Bowery & Houston Mural

Last week, the iconic corner of Bowery & Houston in New York saw a new mural take shape as COPE2 took over the location. Featuring his well known bubble tags and associated graf elements, the wall was soon filled with letterings from the NYC writer on a richly textured background. Streets: Kenny Scharf x COPE2 Mural (New York)

Last month, Kenny Scharf (interviewed) and Cope2 collaborated on a mural in the New York. These two legends in their own right created an epic piece in one of the birth place of graffiti. La Tour 13 (Paris)

Over looking the Seine, La Tour Paris 13‎ is a project curated by Mehdi Ben Cheikh from Galerie Itinerrance. During a year, the entire building was painted by 100 international street and graffiti artists, each leaving their mark with murals and installations within the 36 apartments over 9 floors and cellars. Opening to the public for a month from October 1st, the building is due to be demolished in November, making it the largest temporary street art exhibition in France. Showing: “Three” @ DQE

Ruttkowski;68 and Art Is Just a Four Letter Word opened a group show “Three” in Cologne, Germany, at DQE in Heliosstr. The idea of the show is to show the diversities and similarities between three artists from different geographic backgrounds, with three signature styles, united by a common environment – graffiti. Openings: COPE2 – “Hypnotic” @ Gallery 69

Bronx bomber and graff artist COPE2 continued his indoor showcases with a show at Gallery 69 in New York. Entitled Hypnotic, this exhibition is another step in the evolution of his signature bubble throw ups and wildstyle compositions. Cope2 worked layers upon layers of abstraction on this fresh series of canvases showing a nice change of pace from the works we’ve been used to seeing from his street works. Check it all out below. Openings: COPE2 – “The Rebirth” @ Project One

Last week, Bronx artist COPE2 treked across the nation for a solo exhibition at San Francisco’s Project One. Entitled The Rebirth, COPE brought the indoor game as he created works incorporating his renowned bubble throw ups and his wildstyle compositions. Great to see the Bay area get to experience the works from one of the key writers of the iconic early subway scene of NYC. Discuss COPE2 here.

Previews: Dreweatts Urban & Contemporary Sale

On the 3rd of July, Dreweatts London will be hosting their Urban and Contemporary sale. The auction presents some pieces from a strong mix of urban and contemporary artists including Banksy, Nick Walker, Paul Insect, Adam Neate, and Damien Hirst.  International artists are also featured, facing the French side, with works by Blek Le Rat, Speedy Graphito, Jef Aerosol, Kan/DMV, and the American side with artworks by LAII, Cope2, Faile, Michael De Feo, just to name a few. Streets: World Roundup (June 18 – June 24)

Leading this week’s world roundup of street activity is this new mural from Specter (source). The storefront looks amazingly real and was painted for the Bushwick Five Points Festival in Brooklyn.
