Upcoming: Daniel Arsham – “3018” @ Perrotin Gallery (New York)

Although it’s still a couple months in the future, Daniel Arsham has been teasing his upcoming show opening on September 8th at Perrotin’s New York location with photos of a DeLorean reimagined with his “Future Archeology” motif in mind. Entitled 3018, the name of the upcoming exhibition certainly references the NYC-based artist’s longstanding practice of creating objects common in our time in a manner that he envisions will be discovered by archeologists in the future. It looks like he plans for this iconic car with the gull-winged doors […]

Upcoming: Daniel Arsham – “Character Study” @ Morán Morán Gallery

Tonight in Los Angeles, Morán Morán Gallery will be opening a solo show from Daniel Arsham entitled Character Study. The title likely references the first part of the New York-based artist’s new body of work, the large scale recreations of his childhood collection of cartoon character patches that adorned his backpack. Created with plaster and in white, as is the formerly color-blind artist’s practice, the pieces which amazingly look to have the texture of cloth, are dusted with pigment chiaroscuro style. Arsham explains – “When I began delving into […]

Releases: Daniel Arsham – “Sand Circle”

It looks like Daniel Arsham’s latest limited edition is set to release on November 26th at noon EST on his webshop. Entitled Sand Circle, the new art object will be produced in a run of 500 and continues the NY-based artist’s fascination with lunar imagery. Arsham further explains – “In the 1960’s, during the space race there were different devices developed and created to explore distant galaxies and planets. One was famously a device that utilized sand, water, and air to create landscapes. This piece taps into […]

Releases: Daniel Arsham x Adidas Originals Shoe

Over the weekend, Daniel Arsham teamed up with Adidas Originals to release a new shoe featuring his distinct aesthetic. The American artist’s version of their New York silhouette features an all white color, frayed edges, and the text “THE PAST IS PRESENT” along the side, which is only visible when placed underneath an ultraviolet light. For those familiar with Arsham’s work, these design cues fit in perfectly with his signature “future relic” vibe. The extremely limited sneaker retailed for $180 but probably will go for more at this […]

Previews: Daniel Arsham – “Crystal Toys” @ Galerie Perrotin (Seoul)

On May 25th, the Seoul branch of Galerie Perrotin will be opening a new solo show from Daniel Arsham entitled Crystal Toys. Continuing his unique practice of creating “future relics”, the American artist looks to be taking his work in a more whimsical direction for this exhibition, focusing his technique on childhood toys. Using different materials like ash, amethyst, selenite, and quartz, Arsham has as usual created sculptures of how he envisions modern day objects would look like if they were discovered many many years […]

Releases: Daniel Arsham – “Future Relic 07”

Today at 9 am EST, Daniel Arsham will be releasing Future Relic 07, a continuation of his series of limited edition sculptural works. The objects are created with repurposed material and are made to look like remains that future archeologists may discover from our time, hence the name. Often times, similar pieces have taken part in installations for his shows (i.e. Miami ’16) arranged like archaeological dig sites. Up for offer today is a walkman (seen above among the previous six releases), something that is already almost obsolete today. Head […]

Tomorrow night (September 15th) in New York, Daniel Arsham will be opening a show at Galerie Perrotin entitled Circa 2345. The exhibition will be the locally-based artist’s 11th solo with the gallery, but his first in their NYC branch. As the title suggests, he will be continuing his signature brand of “fictional archeology” where current day objects are created in the way that future generations would see them when they unearth them. In this new body of work, Arsham has added colors to his normal black & white […]

Album Covers: Daniel Arsham x Usher – “No Limit” & “Crash”

On the cover of two new singles from Usher is artwork that fans might recognize if they are familiar with the work of Daniel Arsham. Featuring two views of a sculpture created in the signature future archaeological style of the Brooklyn-based sculptor, No Limit & Crash are both great examples of collaborations between music artists and fine artists. Usher apparently spent four hours sitting still while Arsham put him through the process of creating something that might be discovered in the the distant future, like the ruins […]
