Opening this Thursday, Oct 10, is Quam Odunsi’s second solo exhibition at Design Matters Gallery in Los Angeles. Titled The Reagents, this brand new body of work, in which the Los Angeles-based artist takes on the role of a government surveillance official who starts to become more and more absorbed with his citizens and their private lives, features 35mm, 120mm, and Polaroid images taken with actual film (none of that digital stuff) cameras. A little while back we brought you a preview of some of the work for Word Play, hosted at Design Matters Gallery in Los Angeles. The premise of the exhibition excited us as the curated theme was based around text within art. The group exhibition was curated by Stephanie Chefas, of Platinum Cheese blog fame and features a variety of artists from very different backgrounds but all commonly using text in their work though a range of styles and mediums. Opening a couple of weeks back in Los Angeles was Quam Odunsi’s debut solo exhibition (curated by AM’s Khoi Nguyen) of captivating film, still images, slides, and Polaroid collage-based artwork.
