Teaser / Setup: Ellis G. – Permanently Temporary @ Mighty Tanaka

It looks like our friend Ellis Gallagher’s (interviewed) is setting up for his latest show Temporarily Permanent, a title that certainly describes the state of street art, especially when mostly done with chalk in his case. With this newest endeavor, Ellis is putting on a show in NYC again, with the first being at Collective Hardware in 2009. Head over to the Mighty Tanaka tomorrow night, January 21st, if you are interested because for the first time, original shadow & chalk drawings will be available […]

Openings: “Willoughby Windows” presented by Ad Hoc Art

Bringing life to a row of twelve empty storefronts in New York, the “Willoughby Windows” (previewed) community beautification project presented by Ad Hoc Art in conjunction with the MetroTech Business Improvement District, was a success by all accounts. The storefronts, located at 89 to 106 Willoughby Street in Brooklyn, included participation from artists Chris Stain, Ellis G. (interviewed), Gaia, Logan Hicks (interviewed), Dennis McNett, Michael De Feo, Josh MacPhee and more. Given the number of rising empty storefronts due to the state of the economy, hopefully we’ll see more such projects take place in […]

We were lucky enough to be there for the installation all week and to share some pics of the fun with you. More about the show, all the photos from the installation/opening and a […]

Interviews: Ellis G. – “Ocular Echoism: The Autonomy of Ellis Gallagher” @ Collective Hardware

AM had the chance to spend a few evenings with Ellis G. prior to his upcoming solo show “Ocular Echoism: The Autonomy of Ellis Gallagher” opening at Collective Hardware this Thursday, July 23 at 7pm in NYC. If you recall, we also had a chance to spend time with him on the streets before the group show he participated in at Thinkspace back in January. As we walked the streets of Cobble Hill looking for the perfect subject/shadow, Ellis seemed to know a lot of […]

Presented by Ad Hoc Art in conjunction with the MetroTech Business Improvement District, the exhibition showcases the beautification project in place to bring life to the twelve empty storefronts on this block. The unveiling of this effort kicks off with a block party on Friday, July 10 from 2-7 pm. Participating artists include Chris Stain, Ellis G. (streets), Gaia, Logan […]

Openings: Logan Hicks & Broken Crow – “Broken Horse”

This past weekend, Logan Hicks and Broken Crow (Mike Fitzsimmons & John Grider) opened their “drive-by” show “Broken Horse” for a packed Brooklyn house. Held in a unique venue that once housed the Hamilton Savings & Loan, the art was really the draw. Utilizing an intricate stenciling process, Logan was able to create scenic snapshots of some of the coolest urban landscapes we’ve seen from a stencil artist. Broken Crow brought mother nature back to the concrete jungle by integrating the animal back into the […]

Openings: BOXI – “Grey Area” & Neo-Con Collective + Zeus – “Hollowood” @ Carmichael Gallery

Berlin-based stencil artist BOXI made his United States solo show debut with “Grey Area” (previewed) which opened this past Thursday at Carmichael Gallery. Patrons were captivated by BOXI’s photo-realistic work and found themselves immersed in the barren world his subjects reside in. Filled with emotion, the work is visually arresting and something that should be experienced in person if you’re in the Los Angeles area. The Neo-Con Collective and London urban artist Zeus overhauled the rear of the gallery with “Hollowood,” featuring Ellis G’s (Seen […]
