After stopping by to check in on the progress of the joint mural between Jeff Soto (interviewed) and Maxx242 in Riverside, we dropped by a couple days ago to see the finished two-wall piece. The long time friends, collaborators (see Berlin & Luxembourg), and artists who have spent most of their lives in the area hope that this new mural will be the beginning of a new renaissance for public art in this part of Southern California. Upcoming: KAWS – “CLEAN SLATE” @ Shanghai Time Square

On May 15th, a colossal sculptural work from KAWS will be unveiled at Piazza of Shanghai Times Square. DALeast (interviewed) is currently globetrotting again, participating in festivals and different projects worldwide. He spent last few weeks on the west coast of Australia, taking part at the Public 2015 festival (more coverage here) in Perth. Getting assigned an unusual, non flat surface, the Chinese artist once again showcased the strength and uniqueness of his style and technique. AM was on hand for the April 17th opening reception of The American _ _ tier solo show from Shawn Huckins (see the recent studio visit here) at Goodwin Fine Art in Denver. There is an almost universal appeal to period specific portraits, as is evident in their prominence in museums and noteworthy collections. David Shillinglaw (see the studio visit here) recently opened a new solo exhibition entitled You Are Here at Scream Gallery in London. A large crowd gathered to see the re-creation of the studio space of the artist, like an exploration of his creative mind, and enjoyed the new body of work on canvas, paper and wood, featuring symbols and typography with British artist’s signature sunny colour palette. Publications: JR for NYT Magazine Walking New York Issue

On the cover of this month’s New York Times Magazine is a special project prepared by JR (interviewed) for their Walking New York issue. Focused on the issue of immigration as of late, the famous street artist decided to photograph recent immigrants walking down the streets of Nolita and in turn pasting their images on city streets, where they are often invisible despite there being approximately 3.1 million of them in NYC. Previews: Takashi Murakami @ Blum & Poe Popup Gallery (Ibiza)

This June, Blum & Poe will open a pop up gallery on Ibiza, showing exclusive new works by Takashi Murakami. The Japanese artist recently shared these in-progress photos showing his studio staff at Miyoshi Factory preparing the works. Along with new large paintings, a few sculptures will be exhibited, including one that will be placed at the entrance of a newly constructed casino on the island. Over the weekend, Ron English (featured) made the most of his turn at the iconic Bowery & Houston wall in New York with a mural that was wheatpasted then hand finished with paint. The imagery chosen is a good representation of his work with the background being the American flag made up of modified company logos and slogans that speak to English’s satirical attack on consumerism, while the center features one of his most recognized surreal characters – the Temper Tot or “Baby Hulk.” Take a look at more photos and a […]

Openings: Patrick Martinez – “FORBIDDEN FRUIT” @ New Image Art

Last week at New Image Art in Los Angeles, the versatile Patrick Martinez unveiled new mixed media works with a show entitled FORBIDDEN FRUIT. The fresh work combines his signature neon light technique with sculpture & painting, taking inspiration from things like hip hop and minority culture. Examples include guns mingling and appearing with common place items like fruits highlighted by neon lights, or imagery products are placed on the wall like strange hybrids – all giving insight into Martinez’s artistic vision.
