Openings: Yayoi Kusama Retrospective @ The Whitney Museum

A couple nights ago, AM was able to stop by the Whitney Museum in New York to attend the opening of the Yayoi Kusama solo exhibition. The traveling retrospective, which was recently shown at the Tate Modern in London (covered), features a diverse selection of her work from the 1940s through the present including traditional Japanese paintings, her canvases utilizing repeating motifs of dots and nets, furniture bristling with soft-sculpture phalluses, her polka-dot-painted pumpkins, whole room light installations, and more. Wandering through a wonderland of the […]

Openings: Andrew Schoultz – “Ex Uno Plura” @ Eric Firestone Gallery

Over this past weekend, San Francisco-based artist Andrew Schoultz visited the Hamptons at Eric Firestone Gallery to unveil a new body of work consisting of his remixed flags. Entitled Exo Uno Plura, the show explores the kinetic compositions referencing the political turmoil in the nation. Further pushing his skills, Andrew told us he worked and weathered the flags to age them. Unlike the fully coated gold flag he recently displayed in City of Fire, Mr. Schoultz this time plays with the dripping and coloration to escalate his commentary […]

We recently had the chance to stop by Mark Dean Veca’s (interviewed) studio again to get an update on what he has been working on of late. Some highlights include the Son of Phantasmagoria installation opening at the San Jose Museum of Art in September […]

Interviews: TrustoCorp x The Hollywood Reporter – Tabloid Magazine Interventions

It looks like TrustoCorp has drawn additional interest of THR (The Hollywood Reporter) after their initial story on the piece they did for our City of Fire exhibition. This time, the weekly trade magazine for Tinseltown spoke to TrustoCorp about their recent Tabloid Magazine Interventions. THR and Trusto had a serious Q&A session regarding artistic expression in parodying tabloid covers as these magazines twist and warp facts on numerous  celebrities in pop culture in the interest of sensationalist reporting. The Hollywood Reporter (THR): How do […]

We’ve been busy getting ready the past few weeks for our City of Fire exhibition opening that happens tonight in Beverly Hills. So in celebration of this opening we have worked with Dave Kinsey, Ron English and TrustoCorp to create a unique series of limited prints for the AM readers. Part […]

Next Monday, May 21st in Tucson, the newest exhibition from Josh Keyes will be open for public enjoyment at the Joseph Gross Gallery. The showing at the University of Arizona will be the first solo for the Portland-based painter at an academic associated gallery and as such he will be displaying a selection of old and new work which could be instructive on how artistic style changes and develops over time. We haven’t had a chance to sit down with Josh for some questions and answers […]
