Upcoming: Kevin Peterson – “Sovereign” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Following up on news of his recent album cover with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kevin Peterson will be opening an exhibition on August 20th at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Entitled Sovereign, the solo from the Houston-based artist will be hosted in the main space. Openings: Pejac – “Law of the Weakest” (London Popup)

On Thursday, July 21st, Pejac revealed his long awaited London solo show for a private viewing. Installed as a popup at the Londonewcastle Project Space on Redchurch Street, Law of the Weakest included around 30 pieces created in the last couple of months exclusively for this event. The visitors entered the main part of the show through a dark room in which a large ball pit was placed. Coming up on September 8, OSGEMEOS will be opening their solo show at the 536 West 22nd Street location of Lehmann Maupin in New York. Installs: Ai WeiWei “F Lotus”, Vienna

In his continuing effort to raise awareness about the refugee crisis, Ai Weiwei recently installed a new piece at Vienna’s Belvedere Palace as a part of his first solo exhibition in Austria, translocation – transformation. Titled F Lotus the piece consists of 201 rings with 5 life jackets on each, floating like lotus flowers and forming a big letter F. After installing 14,000 jackets on the columns Konzerthaus Berlin of in Berlin in February (covered), the Chinese artist once again wanted to bring attention to what is happening on the shores of EU. Streets: Nychos (Rhode Island)

This week in Providence, Nychos continued his hectic schedule with a snow leopard mural for the INFLUX public art festival put on by The Avenue Concept. The nonprofit organization working to bring sustainable public art to Rhode Island welcomed in the Austrian artist (with the help of INOPERAbLE) to paint his distinctive cartoonish dissected imagery for the project concentrated in two locations – downtown Providence and the “Cultural Corridor” between Classical and Central High Schools. Athens’ Dio Horia gallery recently hosted Taylor McKimens in their one month long residency program where he created a whole new series of paintings that are currently on view. Swapping Paint continues his recent Stoic Youth show (covered), which also explored his take on Hellenistic art.
