Openings: Josh Keyes & Brin Levinson – “Reclamation of Nowhere” @ Antler Gallery

Last week, Josh Keyes (interviewed) returned to the Antler Gallery for a joint showing with Brin Levinson entitled Reclamation of Nowhere. Their imagery meshed nicely together with Keyes’ creatures interacting with what may be a post-apocalyptic urban landscape and Levinson working with the same nature versus man themes but with a different atmosphere. The show runs through the 26th of this month for those in Portland who want to stop by themselves for a look. Discuss Josh Keyes here.

Introducing: NuArt Festival, Norway 2015

AM is excited to announce the first details of the 2015 NuArt Festival, one of the world’s leading celebration of street art. Streets: Ron English (New York)

Back in 2012, we covered the first mural in Manhattan from Ron English (featured) in over 25 years, featuring his signature Temper Tot figure, a play on The Incredible Hulk. Over the last couple days, the New York-based artist has added a pink brother to the original piece on an adjacent wall for the L.I.S.A Project. Located on 114 Mulberry Street in Little Italy, the matching murals are dedicated to English’s kids Zephyr and Mars, the original Temper Tots. Discuss Ron English here.

After completing a recent mural in New York (covered), photographer and street artist JR (interviewed) headed over to the City of Brotherly Love to work on a piece for the Open Source exhibition, part of the city’s MuralArtsProgram. Entitled Migrants, Ibrahim, Mingora-Philadelphia, the wall from the French artist features a portrait of Ibrahim Shah, a Philadelphia resident who immigrated to the United States from Pakistan. Openings: Spazuk – “Smoking Guns and Feathers” @ Reed Projects

Currently at Reed Projects Gallery, a show entitled Smoking Guns and Feathers from Steven Spazuk is on display, highlighting his unique technique of “fumage.” The Canada-based artist was also on hand on opening night to show delighted fans his skills in person with the flame of a candle, creating imagery with marks of smoke and soot. Referenced in the title is his theme of environmental awareness and the effect of humans on our Earth’s ecosystem as well as a nod towards his way of mark-making. Discuss Spazuk here.

Releases: Pharrell Williams x Todd “REAS” James x Mr. x Zaha Hadid x Cass Bird adidas Originals Supershell Collection

American singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, and fashion designer Pharrell Williams once again has collaborated with adidas Originals on a soon to be released collection with the Supershell. Williams teamed up with Todd “REAS” James, Mr., architect Zaha Hadid, and photographer Cass Bird on a series of sneakers that features a different graphic or sculpt to the shelltoe. Six were designed by Williams himself which in total comprised the 10 different designs, which will be offered in black or white colorways starting next month. Via Hypebeast.

As previously mentioned, the Portuguese collective Underdogs is currently hosting a solo show from Ernest Zacharevic. The Lithuanian-born artist, whose street works around his hometown in Malaysia have become viral sensations and one of the favorite tourist attractions, recently spent few weeks in Lisbon, creating and finally installing and opening his solo show Floor is Lava. Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s Food Face Portraits As Sculptures By Philip Haas

Currently (thru October 18th) at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Philip Haas has installed his larger than life sculptures that take Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s famous face portraits (made from fruits, vegetables, flowers) into the third dimension. Taking inspiration from the Renaissance painter’s The Four Seasons set of paintings, Haas has impressively recreated the characters in 360 degrees and at fifteen feet high and placed them on the south lawn of the museum.
