Haroshi – “Battle At The Berrics 9” Trophy

As he has done in the past (see 5 & 7), sculptor Haroshi (featured) recently created the trophy for the ninth edition of the Battle At The Berrics. Perfectly matched with the contest held at the indoor skatepark in Los Angeles, the Japanese artist chose this time to create his version of the number 9 with his usual medium of choice – used skatedecks. Haroshi For HUF (Los Angeles)

A couple weeks back, we finally had time to stop by HUF on Fairfax in Los Angeles to check out Haroshi’s larger than life middle finger. The irreverent sculpt is something the Japanese artist know for his pieces created from compressed used skateboards, but this time also there are limited edition vinyl versions of the middle finger for sale as well. One month after opening his third NYC show (covered), Haroshi had a pre-opening special exhibition at HHH gallery on March 21st in Tokyo. The gallery that was co-founded by Haroshi and Usugrow held host to a group of locals who are engaged in various creative activities, such as book-making, event planning, music-making and filmmaking. On February 19th, Jonathan LeVine Gallery opened Still Pushing Despite The Odds, a new solo by Haroshi (featured) at their location on West 23rd Street. Consisting of mostly large scale works, this is his third show with the showspace in Chelsea, and is a great demonstration of his unique skills and inventiveness. After a successful showing with Jonathan LeVine in 2011 and 2013, Haroshi (featured) will be opening his third show with the gallery on February 19th. Sculptor Haroshi (featured), who is deeply embedded in skate culture, has designed the trophy for The Battle At The Berrics VII. A fitting collaboration as the unique aesthetic of the Japanese artist features recycled skateboards as his raw materials. Tonight in London, the StolenSpace Gallery will be hosting Japanese artist Haroshi (featured) and his latest solo exhibition Pain. For this new body of work, the self-taught artist has applied his unique process of creating sculptures out of discarded skateboard decks to explore the effects of emotional pain. On September 5th, Japanese artist Haroshi (featured) introduced his limited edition skateboard decks released through Japanese skateboarding company Uniful. Thug For Life in the Shibuya district of Tokyo was packed with people that were interested in this release that instantly became hit in Asia. Along with the signed and numbered decks, the artist introduced a new sculpture that was made especially for this event.
