After providing you with a sneak peak setup look at Jacob Hashimoto’s MOCA Pacific Design Center installation, we are happy to be able to share images of the finished Gas Giant exhibition. The massive work seemingly alters the cube-like interior space of the PDC venue into a immersive, sublime, and otherworldly experience. Using traditional kite-making techniques and thousands of thin paper sheets attached to supports and string, the artist painstakingly collages the components into a sculptural environment whose whole definitely exceeds the sum of it […]

UK-based artist Mobstr (interviewed) recently launched his solo exhibition Sex, Drugs & Painting Walls Canvases at The Old Truman Brewery in London. Following his public works (covered here), the minimalistic street artist has created black and white canvases with witty text messages, flyers to support a ‘save the trees’ campaign, and a series of installations from dummy spray painters to the re-creation of the artist at work surrounded by a sea of draft messages. The 2014 Whitney Biennial, the final to be housed at the Whitney Museum of American Art’s 945 Madison Avenue location before the museum moves downtown to its new building in Sping 2015, is an assortment of juxtapositions, of massive and miniature, subtle and blatant, high and low. Three different curators—Michelle Grabner (responsible for Dona Nelson’s work seen above), Stuart Comer, Anthony Elms—curated each of the three floors, giving the designated spaces their own voices and trajectories. Below are some highlights of what captivated, intrigued, and generally caught […]
It’s been a long time coming and finally Swoon (interviewed) unveiled her massive installation at the Brooklyn Museum. Entitled Submerged Motherlands, this exhibition ties together many themes by the talented and dedicated artist from Red Hook. Last month, the David B. Smith Gallery gave Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) the go ahead to create a site specific installation in one of the rooms of their Denver showspace. Much like his showing last year at the Orange County Musuem of Art (covered), the LA-based artist created a space, dubbed Le Poppy Den this time, where attendees could be fully immersed in his signature “Toile de Jouy” like patterns. Check out a few more photos below… Discuss Mark Dean Veca here.
