Continuing his recent work encompassing the animal kingdom (see 2013), explosive artist Cai Guo-Qiang has created a new striking installation on the Huangpu River in Shanghai. Entitled The Ninth Wave, this installation is the public face of a new solo from the Chinese artist at the Power Station of Art starting on August 8th. The boat with weary animals clinging to it takes its name from “Russian painter Ivan Aivazovsky’s 1850 eponymous painting, which famously depicted survivors from a shipwreck clinging to a mast as in […]

This year’s Glastonbury Festival kicked off recently in the UK where attendees were surprised by an appearance by Banksy’s Sirens of the Lambs truck. The Bristol-based artist imported the art performance piece from his recent art residency on the streets of New York, changing out the truck to something seen locally as well as adding a man dressed as a farmer leading the way. Currently showing at the StolenSpace Gallery in London through July 4th is an exhibition from ROA entitled PROJECTUM 06. The installation and new body of work featured his dissected portrayals of wildlife from the places he has traveled and reflects the work on the street from the Belgium-based artist. As per his style, many of his pieces have interactive aspects and deceptive visual props like mirrors which were enjoyed by all as they walked through the gallery. Photo credit: Paul Whitehouse. After providing you with a sneak peak setup look at Jacob Hashimoto’s MOCA Pacific Design Center installation, we are happy to be able to share images of the finished Gas Giant exhibition. The massive work seemingly alters the cube-like interior space of the PDC venue into a immersive, sublime, and otherworldly experience. Using traditional kite-making techniques and thousands of thin paper sheets attached to supports and string, the artist painstakingly collages the components into a sculptural environment whose whole definitely exceeds the sum of it […]
