This past weekend, Thinkspace Gallery unveiled a new exhibit by couple and Australian artists Dabs Myla. Featuring a collection of 3d objects, sketches and paintings, the show was packed from the start and offered the visitors a visual eye feast. Titled as The Best of Times, the latest showing featured a retrospective of their last two years spent across California and the Pacific Northwest. Swoon – “Thalassa” Installation @ New Orleans Museum of Art

Look familiar? Yes, it’s another sweet installation from Swoon (interviewed), this time at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). Just as stunning as her light-infused piece from the Art in the Streets exhibition, this suspended ocean goddess is entitled Thalassa and is made of wood & paper and located above NOMA’s Great Hall with layered tentacles created from scavenged materials stretching to the mezzanine. Kaws x The Standard – “Passing Through” Companion Party

Earlier in the week, we watched Kaws’ iconic Passing Through Companion touch down in the front yard of The Standard Hotel after its little tour of Hong Kong and Connecticut. This unveiling of Kaws’ first major public art installation in NYC was cause for celebration and the hotel hosted a party at their exclusive Boom Boom Room. Next Thursday, June 9th, at The Hole in New York, Miami based art collective FriendsWithYou will be introducing a new body of work simply titled with a smiley face emoticon. The name of the show is in line with their eternally cheerful & uplifting persona, and will feature what sounds like an immersive installation of their geometric abstractions. Swoon’s (interviewed) first solo exhibition in Australia closed last weekend at the Metro Gallery, but we have some pics for you of the opening for those who missed it. Entitled Thekla, the body of work, like many of the New York-based artist’s shows, included immersive installations as well as standalone pieces. Crafted from mostly from familiar imagery, the show also incoporated some new, never seen before pieces. More pics after the jump…

This past Saturday saw the opening of Gardar Eide Einarsson’s second exhibition with Honor Fraser. The politically rebellious artist’s show included minimalist black & white artwork using found objects and appropriated imagery. The main piece of the show consisted of a installation of rubber car tires and casts of sharpened bamboo sticks. Meant to recreate and recontextualize the makeshift street barricades found in Thailand, the piece references ’60s installations and happenings, such as Allan Kaprow’s Yard. Osgemeos – “Slava’s Head” for The Moulin / Dépayz’arts

It looks like Osgemeos has hooked up with The Moulin again for another project, this time to fashion Slava’s head out of a trailer. The character is taken of the famous Russian clown show – Slava’s SnowShow, which is also the subject of an animation that the Brazilian duo are working on (shown here previously). Building on his solo a few months back, Compound Eyes of the World (covered), Andrew Schoultz debuted a new body of work last week at the Arkitip and Incase showspace in Los Angeles.
