Teaser: 2012 White Columns Benefit Exhibition + Auction

Currently on auction at White Columns are works from over 80 artists to benefit the not-for-profit gallery near the border of West Village and the Meat Packing District in New York. AM recently had the chance to stop by The Brooklyn Academy of Music’s (BAM) annual silent auction to take a look at the artwork up for bid. Teaser: KAWS – “The Nature of Need” @ Galerie Perrotin (Hong Kong)

After Passing Through Hong Kong in 2010 with the debut of his now famous massive sitting companion which has now also travelled to New York, and Connecticut, KAWS will be giving his fans in Asia what they have been jonesing for – a solo show. Scheduled to open on May 15th at Galerie Perrotin, The Nature of Need will feature more of the New York based artist and designer’s colorful geometric abstractions. Last night, AM attended the early viewing of Brian Donnelly’s (a.k.a. KAWS) latest museum exhibition Downtime and artist talk at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Continuing to raise his profile with each successive museum show (see The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth), Brian Donnelly, a.k.a. KAWS, moves on to his next stop – The High Museum of Art in Atlanta. KAWS fans out there will be pleased to know that the next figure from the street turned contemporary artist has dropped. Partners features a sculpt of the artist standing next to his companion figure. If this looks familiar, it’s because you probably have seen the statue at Disneyland featuring Walt Disney standing next to Mickey Mouse although not cringing like in this version. On Friday night, AM attended Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth where KAWS unveiled his latest show in the Lone Star state. The exhibition entitled Focus:KAWS is a mix of color and monotone works from the Brooklyn based artist including a previous series of tondos which made its way from this year’s Armory.
