We all hit bumps in the road, but with a little help we can all overcome any obstacles. As mentioned previously, a good friend of AM and assistant director of Joshua Liner Gallery, Tim Strazza, was unfortunately diagnosed with a Multiple Sclerosis. This Thursday, a very special art fundraiser will be held at Joshua Liner Gallery for our friend Tim Strazza who was unfortunately diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. We are helping to sponsor a benefit event where all proceeds will go to his medical bills. The beautiful weather and the promise of great art seemingly brought out all the five boroughs Thursday night for the opening of the Barnstormers show at Joshua Liner Gallery. Just recently, the Joshua Liner Gallery gave notice that they were revising their schedule to include an exciting surprise show opening March 18 by the NYC/Tokyo-based artist collective The Barnstormers. According to insider information leaked to AM from a reliable source, the collaborative group (which includes nearly everyone whose anyone in the street art and associated scene) will be creating individual pieces and site-specific installations that will likely span beyond the walls of Liner’s spacious Chelsea gallery into another gallery space in the building. Saturday night, the Joshua Liner Gallery played host to the openings of two striking solo shows. In the front gallery, Kenji Hirata presented “The Way Out Is The Way In,” a bold collection of modern abstract paintings on canvas and paper. Hirata superimposes bright opaque colors within flat color fields, which brings to mind minimalist or hard-edged painters of the mid-20th century. Saturday night, AM attended the opening of Joshua Liner Gallery’s summer group exhibition, which collects solid works from a very strong roster of artists, some of whom the gallery has shown previously and others of whom the gallery is working with for the first time. From the show, it is clear that Liner is actively evolving and maturing his gallery. And from the response from collectors and others at the opening, it seems that what he’s doing is working.
