Recap: Kidult – “Visual Rape” Pop Up Show (Tokyo)

Provocative graffiti artist Kidult recently held a 48 hour pop show in Tokyo entitled Visual Rape. The French artist who made his name tagging his moniker on the storefront of famous fashion brands, particularly those who use graffiti commercially, made sure to include a reference to his notoriety with sculptures (two editions) of Chanel’s tagged facade in the exhibition. Rounding out the eclectic exhibition were mixed media works, installations, sculptures, and some videos documenting his work on the streets. Photo credit: Arthur Bray/Hypebeast. Discuss Kidult here.

Headlining our Rewind feature this time is a short film documenting Adam Neate’s (interviewed) time in Beijing where he joined street calligraphers in Beihai Park. They all practice the art of DiShu, or water calligraphy where the ephemeral forms disappear as it evaporates. This week’s look at public art around the world is headlined by this new piece (source) from Case (aka Andreas von Chrzanowski) in Frankfurt, Germany. Painted at the construction site for the future European Central Bank headquarters, the MaClaim crew member painted Pinnochio being manipulated by a pair of hands, making some sort of political statement.
