Upcoming: Lisa Ericson – “Islands” @ Antler Gallery

Tonight in Portland at Antler Gallery, Lisa Ericson will be opening a new show entitled Islands alongside some sculptural works from Crystal Morey. Building on concepts conceived in previous body of works (LA ’18 & PDX ’18), the locally-based artist returns with more acrylic on panel paintings that feature fauna and flora, entire ecosystems, balanced on the backs of different creatures. The science-based and surreal imagery from Ericson simultaneously brings to mind the global refugee crisis and environmental issues such as global warming. Discuss Lisa Ericson here.

Upcoming: Josh Keyes & Lisa Ericson – “Tempest” & “Border Crossing” @ Thinkspace

Coming up on October 13th, Thinkspace will be opening separate solo shows from artist couple Josh Keyes (interviewed) and Lisa Ericson. Both of the Portland-based artists’ work reference the environmental issues our world faces, something that will be evident again when they unveil new paintings in Los Angeles. Keyes’ imagery (seen above) often features a post-apocalyptic world where creatures are confronted by the results of actions by humans, often creating tension by bringing nature into an urban setting while Erison (seen below) has been continuing to explore […]

Coming up on April 26th, Antler Gallery in Portland will be opening a new show featuring the paintings of Lisa Ericson (seen above) and Lindsey Carr (seen below) both of whom have taking their work in a direction we find interesting. Referencing environmental issues while creating surreal pieces based on the ideas of of “mobile habitats” Ericson clusters smaller creatures like refugees on top of turtle shells or aquatic life flourishing around coral fish hybrids. Carr, who has been known in the past for her imaginative take on traditional […]

The new body of work she has prepared for this exhibition seems to be centered upon”mobile habitats,” plants growing on the back of tortoises that can support other wild life such as butterflies, frogs, and other insects. She will be sharing the show space with artists David Rice and Danny Samuels and their new work. Discuss Lisa Ericson here.

Art Focus: Lisa Ericson

Painter Josh Keyes (interviewed) recently clued us in to the work of his wife Lisa Ericson by posting some of her work on various social media. We were especially drawn to a series she calls Mouserflies, for obvious reasons as you can see from the surreal hybrids seen here. For those interested in more from the Portland-based artist, you can see work from her as well as Keyes in the Unfathomable group show currently on view at The Piranha Shop, curated by Antler Gallery. Discuss Lisa Ericson here.

AM recently brought you a preview of Antler Gallery’s Unnatural Histories II exhibition including the first look at the Josh Keyes‘ work in the group show. We now have pictures from the opening, courtesy of the gallery for your viewing pleasure. The concept of the exhibition called for each participating artist to create a natural history inspired portrait of a mythical creature.
