Shortly after finishing new series of hand painted mono silkscreens (covered), the NYC-based How & Nosm flew to Portugal to take part in the ongoing Underdogs Project. As announced earlier this year, Raoul and Davide Perre are on a list of participants which also includes Interesni Kazki (covered), Cyrcle (covered), Maismenos, Alex Fakso, Martha Cooper, Vhils & Pixel Pancho. Ukrainian artistic duo, Interesni Kazki, were recently in Lisbon, Portugal, where they did their part for the UnderDogs Project. Famous for their unique fairy tale-like murals, the duo worked on a new street piece, which included their signature bright and poppy color palette. After seeding his home city of Lisbon with multiple murals (here, here, here & here) highlighting his unique skills, Vhils (filmed) has opened his show there at Vera Cortês Art Agency. And, what a show it is! The comprehensive exhibition entitled Diorama devoted entire rooms to the various mediums the street artist favors for indoor work including mixed media on paper, metal, wood, and a new technique with styrofoam. After putting a new piece up at the revolving mural project Le M.U.R in Paris (covered), Vhils headed home to work on another wall in Lisbon. In contrast to the one in France where he used techniques similar to what you see from the artist for some pieces in gallery shows, this new piece in Portugal sees his classic chisel and hammer technique. Lisbon continues to be a hotbed for street activity recently (Brad Downey, Vhils), and it appears according to Stick2Target, a new piece from Conor Harrington’s (interviewed) has popped up. Haven’t seen any indoor work from the Cork born painter since the brilliant Hell’s Half Acre show (covered), so we are certainly curious as to what’s he been working on (mentioned here). Berlin-based American artist, Brad Downey, has been keeping himself rather busy lately. His first show in the Middle East, We Are Beginning: Personal Projects in Public Spaces, opened this week at Cuadro Fine Art Gallery in Dubai. In addition, Downey’s work features in the group show What Is Contemporary Art? which opened Friday at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, Denmark.
