Entitled ANTHROPOMORPHUCKED, the new exhibition will be his most eclectic to date as the locally-based artist has had time to prepare some pieces that have been on his mind for some time now. On September 8th, Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles will host the opening reception for Paco Pomet’s latest solo show. Entitled Melancholia, the new body of work from Spanish artist once again is built on vintage photos as his source of inspiration which he then alters with some surreal twist. This time around, Pomet plays around with the different effects and affects of light, incorporating the sun and moon into his landscapes with some impossible scenarios. He further explains – “Since my childhood, the observation […]

Previews: Soey Milk – “Inflorescence” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Collectively entitled Inflorescence, the vibrant new body of work features over 20 paintings and drawings (which served as studies for the paintings). The new pieces serve as markers for significant moments in Milk’s life, made all the more personal with her friends as source material (as well as what looks to be some self-portraits). The exhibition also sees the locally-based artist continue to explore the use of embedded objects as a medium, with […]

Upcoming: YESNIK x Jaybo – “For Better or Worse” (LA Popup)

From September 7-9, YESNIK and Jaybo will be holding a joint popup exhibition in Los Angeles at F-U (For the Unconventional). The Standard hotel in Downtown LA is currently hosting a big-scale West Coast debut of British artist Lucy Sparrow. As her fifth fully-felted art installation, Sparrow Mart opened doors on August 1st and will stay open for business until the end of the month. From bubblegum, fruit and veggies, to different packaging of favorite snacks, […]

Showing: Yayoi Kusama – “With All My Love For The Tulips, I Pray Forever (2011)” @ Marciano Art Foundation

For Angeleno’s who missed Yayoi Kusuma’s turn at The Broad (covered) last year, here is your second chance. With All My Love For The Tulips, I Pray Forever (2011) features the Japanese artist’s penchant for polka dots in an immersive installation with large fiberglass-reinforced plastic tulips surrounded by floor-to-ceiling red dots. Ranging from over 7 to almost 10 feet tall, the three oversized flowers reinforces the illusion that the viewer has shrunk down to miniature size, an effect amplified by the repeating dots. Recap: Joakim Ojanen – “Year of the Dog” @ Richard Heller Gallery

An exhibition entitled Year of the Dog recently closed at the Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles, their second solo from Joakim Ojanen. Featuring a comprehensive selection of the Stockholm-based artist’s ceramics, bronzes, charcoal drawings, and oil paintings, the show focuses in on Ojanen’s cast of characters that seem to be taken from a children’s book or Adult Swim cartoon. The paintings are somewhat abstract and the sculptures are loose, expertly done with a child-like innocence yet unsettling at the same time. Photo credit: Artsy, Richard McKinnon, and Ethan […]
