Previews: A.J. Fosik, Ben Venom & Erin Riley @ Guerrero Gallery

This Saturday, Guerrero Gallery is going to present a show featuring works of art that gets back to the basics of craftsmanship. In a world of digital media, design and virtuality, three artists (AJ Fosik, Ben Venom and Erin Riley) have been creating their path through wood, embroidery and tapestry respectively. Last night at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Sanrio opened the doors to a tremendous 50th Anniversary celebration featuring carnival games, costumed characters, special food booths, limited edition event products from the company, and of course – a themed art group show (curated by JAPAN LA). Preview: Femke Hiemstra & Ryan Heshka – “The Bone Shaped Bone” & “Super Things” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night in Seattle, two artists we have our eyes on, Femke Hiemstra and Ryan Heshka will be opening a show together at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Femke hails from the Netherlands and will be bringing a new body of work entitled “The Bone Shaped Bone” featuring her imaginative paintings, often on found objects like the book seen above. Openings: Eric Fortune – “A Dream’s Reflection” @ LeBasse Projects

Last Saturday night, opening alongside Nate Frizzell in the Culver City art district was Eric Fortune (interviewed) “A Dream’s Reflection” in the project room of LeBasse Projects. The Ohio-based artist made it all the way out for the opening and brought along five new paintings with his somber characters floating in swirling layers of interplay between light and shadow. This Friday, November 12th, London will get another taste of the New Contemporary art movement as London Miles will be hosting “The Idol Hours” group show. Openings: Xiaoqing Ding – “At the End of a Rainbow” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Opening recently alongside Tara McPherson was Brooklyn artist Xiaoqing Ding with her new exhibition “At the End of a Rainbow” at Jonathan Levine Gallery. The show demonstrates Xiao’s flexibility to work on various mediums and still keep her luminous subjects intact. While most of her pieces utilizing oil or fine graphite techniques, she also experiments in utilizing Asian mediums and presentation such as scrolls and traditional wood sculpt frames.
