Openings: “Multi-Plane Show” @ Corey Helford

AM dropped by Corey Helford Gallery’s Multi-Plane Show opening (previewed) to see how the finished pieces turned out. The gallery came up with the show’s “Multi-Plane” theme by borrowing the idea from past animation techniques where scenes were created using multiple cell layers. As we mentioned in our preview, each of the featured artists were given a kit of different transparent panes to work on that are overlaid on top of each other to give the final painting more depth and richness. Take a look […]

This beautiful hazy effect is something that is further illuminated by seeing his art […]

Sketchbook: Nate Frizzell

While visiting Nate Frizzell’s studio a while back, we had to opportunity to flip through some of his sketchbooks. It’s always a privilege to be able to look into the inner workings of an artist’s creative process and is one of our favorite things to do. Of course, we made sure to take some pics to share with our readers. Definitely expect to see more of these features here in the future. Take a look after the jump at some prelim sketches for completed paintings […]

Chock full of visual goodies from galleries we know and love to some newly discovered ones that are now on the AM radar. It was treat to experience some great art at this fair. Check out all the images including several pieces from Jin Young Yu (interviewed & seen above) after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’09: Pulse Fair

Sometimes, it takes stepping out of your comfort zone to get a fresh perspective on the way one views art. That is what Pulse did for us in Miami. From the moment we entered the fair, we noticed many galleries and artists that we weren’t accustomed to viewing. We constantly found ourselves stopping and asking more questions about “what is that?” and “who made it?” than any other fair during Art Basel Week. A truly rewarding experience. Check out all the visual nuggets we dug up after […]
