Preview: Marco Mazzoni – “Il Ricordo è Un Consolatore Molesto”@ Galleria Patricia Armocida

Italian artist Marco Mazzoni is currently preparing a solo show with Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan, Italy, opening on the 19th of February 2013. With fifteen new medium-scale colored pencil paper drawings, twelve Moleskin paper drawings, and a site-specific installation, his 1st solo show in the city he lives and works in, will be one of his biggest to date. Openings: Jay Howell – “Enthusiastic Person” @ FFDG

Last week, Fecal Face Dot Gallery (FFDG) hosted the opening of Jay Howell’s solo show Enthusiastic Person(previewed). On Howell’s resume is the character designer of Bob’s Burgers and co-creator & art director of the upcoming show, Sanjay and Craig. Last month, there was a monstrous four alarm fire that raged thru a handful of apartments in Williamsburg Brooklyn. As many as 200 firefighters were dispatched to get the flames under control, with very little success. While many were displaced, a few of the residents of this devastating tragedy were artist Tara McPherson, Sean Leonard and their lovely newborn child Ronin. Preview: Scott Listfield & Jeff Gillette @ Gallery 1988 (Venice)

Later tonight, the Venice location for Gallery 1988 will be unveiling a two-person show from Scott Listfield and Jeff Gillette. The exhibition pairs Listfield’s astronaut pop culture-infused portraiture with Gillette’s postapocalyptic visions of the urban settings leading to an interesting look into the future perhaps from both artists. Preview: Sam Wolfe Connelly – “Nocturne” @ Roq La Rue

Tonight in Seattle, Sam Wolfe Connelly has a solo show opening at the Roq La Rue gallery featuring his dark and mysterious imagery. The NY-based painter will be putting a new body of work on display entitled Nocturne which will introduce art fans to his visual language which is at the same time delicately beautiful and sinister at the same time. Preview: Tim Doyle – “UnReal Estate II” @ Spoke Art

Tomorrow night (February 7th), Spoke Art will again be the site of a solo show from Tim Doyle in San Francisco. The Austin-based illustrator and screen printer will once again be reprising his re-interpretations of famous TV show locations with a new body of work entitled UnReal Estate II (see part I from 2012 here). Openings: Victor Castillo – “Under Heavy Measures” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

On Saturday night, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery welcomed in Victor Castillo for his new solo show entitled Under Heavy Measures. The new body of work included pieces on paper and canvas, sketches, and some sculptures that look like they came straight out of his paintings including the LA-based artist’s signature red sausage noses (see video). Attendees were treated to vivid and troubled imagery juxtaposing the innocence of children and an illustrative style with dark subject matter fraught with ominous creatures, political overtones, and violence.
