At the beginning of the month, Spoke Art in San Francisco introduced new works from Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) in her first solo in four years. Entitled Stranger, the very floral new body of work encompassed many different mediums including oil paintings, loosely rendered watercolor, india ink sketches, as well as sculpture. The fresh imagery is inspired by the changes in her life, with being a new parent being the most obvious. Streets: Luke Chueh / Murals In The Market (Detroit)

Last month, as part of the Murals In the Market festival, Luke Chueh (interviewed) painted a rare public arts mural in Detroit’s Eastern Market. The Los Angeles-based painter decided to go with an image inspired by his thoughts of the Motor City as being the home of house music and DJ culture as we know it. For fans of Chueh’s sad bear series of works, The Soundtrack (To My Life) is certainly instantly recognizable and striking in large scale form. Featured artists also include: 2501, Askew, Beau Stanton, Brian Lacey, Denial, Ellen […]

The latin terminology utilized as the show title refers to creatures that can not be classified, or are labelled ‘freaks of nature.’ Curated by Butterfly Art News, the showing explores notions of anthropomorphism, human fascination with oddities or monstrosities, and our fragile relationship with the natural world through a series of paintings, drawings, and three dimensional works. Inspired by mythology and sacred art, 100TAUR illustrates hybrid animals […]

Currently, Heath Ceramics in San Francisco has an amazing new set of works on display from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) at their Boiler Room space. Entitled Morphology, the exhibition is a cohesive combination of mostly sculptural works, wall mural, and original pieces. As we expected after our studio visit with the Oakland-based artist at the end of August, his months of hard work pushing the limits to further expand his imagery in the third dimension paid off in a big way. Don’t miss this show if you are in the area before it closes […]

The dimension shifted vision gives bioluminescence to several species as they explore the ether. And, Samantha Wall continues her series of ink, pigment, and charcoal portraits in Let Your Eyes Adjust to the […]
