Over the weekend, painter Luke Chueh (featured) presented a new body of work to his collectors in Los Angeles entitled Self-ish. Previews: Brendan Monroe – “Blobography” @ Heath Ceramics (Los Angeles)

In another collaboration (see McFetridge here)  that makes sense for both parties, Heath Ceramics in Los Angeles will be presenting a show from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) early next month. Blobography will feature organic sculptural forms from the Bay Area-based artist, which have always been an extension of his science-influenced imagery. Upcoming: Hideaki Kawashima – “Back And Forth” @ Richard Heller Gallery

This Saturday (October 18), the Richard Heller Gallery all be hosting the second solo showing from Hideaki Kawashima in the United States (see 2011). Entitled Back And Forth, the new body of work includes portraits of boys and girls, familiar to those who saw his last show although presented in a simpler more raw form in this new exhibition. Also, to round out the show, the Tokyo-based artist has included a new “head” series of paintings. Releases: James Jean – TMNT Figures

Going back to his comic book roots, James Jean (interviewed) revealed a project over the weekend at New York Comic Con that he has been working on with Good Smile. The Japanese manufacturer of hobby products is teaming up with Nickelodeon and Jean to create new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures based on his illustrations. Openings: Handiedan & Sail – “Vesica Piscis” & “Canna Intrat” @ Roq La Rue

Handiedan’s (interviewed) Vesica Piscis and Canna Intrat from Sail (featured) opened on October 2nd as Roq La Rue welcomed back both artists to the Seattle gallery. Handiedan was able to make the trip from Amsterdam to talk with fans and guests wanting to know more about the intricate nature of her collage pieces. Starting on October 30th, Yves Laroche in Montreal will be hosting a massive group exhibition entitled Égrégore. The term refers to a kind of group mind which is created when people consciously come together for a common purpose and was used in relation to the Montreal Surrealists, best known as Les Automatistes in the 40s.
