Streets: JR (New York)

Internationally known, world famous street artist and activist JR (interviewed) spent a good part of a day hanging out in Little Italy working on his latest cliff hanger. This latest wall, one of his more modest works, is a sprawling 7 stories, and appears to be making a statement about global economics and its uncertainty. Depicting a man holding on by just the tips of his fingers, this is just one of many works we expect to be seeing from the French artist while he is […]

Openings: Faile – “Works on Wood” @ Allouche Gallery

Duality is generally viewed as good vs. evil, right vs. wrong, love and hate and the relationship they have with the other, and that is just one of the many constants we all love about the work of Faile. Provocative imagery paired with romanticized hardship, “No Expectations”,  “With Love and Kisses, Nothing lasts Forever”, and “Fast Love” just a few of the dozens of inspiring quotes found within their latest stacked fragmented cubed collage. Even their signature “1986” referring to that moment of the challenger disaster, reminding the viewer that some moments you quite simply […]

Anthony Lister – “SKETCHBOOK” Release @ The Standard Hotel (NYC)

Australian artist and urban art vandal, Anthony Lister (filmed) has his feet firmly planted on New York soil in preparation for his upcoming show at Jonathan LevVne Gallery. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves we took a time-out to swing by The Standard Hotel where he took care of his first order of business with the release of his new book appropriately titled SKETCHBOOK, which is a compilation of drawing, random thoughst and conceptual visions of time travel spanning over the last decade. It’s […]

Openings: Avant Garde Urbano IV (Spain)

Avant Garde Urbano was conceived when artist  Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada teamed up with the township of Tudela De Navarra to create a grass roots non-profit organization with a single goal in mind – to bring some of the best urban artists in the world to one of the most magical communities in central Spain. AM already brought you a  play-by-play of this years mural line up featuring Vhils, Ron English, Faith47, and DALeast. In addition, this year the organizers teamed up with Muñoz Sola Museum of Modern […]

Streets: DALeast for Avant Garde Urbano (Spain)

DALeast went dark and dirty with his latest piece at this year’s Avant Garde Urbano festival. This 30′ x 60′ corner wrapped intertwined beast of a piece had one particular local screaming bloody murder, claiming it was a work of the devil while a handful of others graciously said it was just what this decomposing lot needed to breath some new life into its former shell of a structure now exposed to the open air. Regardless, at the end of the day, the Chinese artist’s latest work […]

Openings: Jean-Michel Basquiat @ Gagosian (New York)

Jean Michel-Basquiat was born in December of 1960 to a modest household in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 5, he was (like most kids) heavily inspired by cartoons and began to sketch out his own. In his adolescent years, although very gifted intellectually (fluent in 4 languages by the age of 11), he became socially awkward, withdrawn and subsequently rebellious. When he was 15, Basquiat dropped out of high school and began running the streets, often seeking the shelter of a New York […]

FAILE x New York City Ballet – “Faile Tower” @ Lincoln Center

It’s has been a long road leading up to this day for the FAILE camp, with Friday’s opening of Les Ballets De Faile. Over the last 6 months, the Patricks and their band of loyal soldiers have created literally thousands of individually stacked ‘wooden block’ piece of artwork, inspired by both their own iconic imagery as well as the archives of the New York City […]

This Friday (Febuary 1st), the New York City Ballet will debut their first ever artist series featuring the work of FAILE. If you know the work of the Patricks, then you automatically know what a perfect fusion of good and evil this collaboration is sure to be, not to mention an amazing opportunity for couple of high school buddies to fill Lincoln Center with one of the most epic art installations one could imagine. AM will be bringing you more on this project later this […]
