Previews: Marion Peck – “Animals” @ Michael Kohn Projects

On March 30th, Michael Kohn Gallery will inaugurate their new project space (dubbed Michael Kohn Projects) at 7270 Beverly Blvd with a solo showing from Marion Peck. The LA-based pop surrealist painter, wife of Mark Ryden, has eleven new works to share collectively entitled Animals, placing her creatures in “various situations and often anthropomorphized to reflect human emotion and mental states.” Here are couple preview images to tide you over until Saturday night. Last night, the Chinatown location of LeBasse Projects hosted Mixtape Los Angeles, a group show curated by by Jessicka Adams and Brian Wakil of Dark Dark Science with part of the proceeds going to Downtown Dog Rescue and Stray Cat Alliance. Twenty four artists created pieces that explored “the effect of music on the process of creation” including Camille Rose Garcia, Elizabeth McGrath, Gary Baseman, Marion Peck, Mark Ryden, Matthew Bone, Melissa Haslam, Tara McPherson, Tim Biskup and more. Last weekend in Santa Monica, Juxtapoz celebrated 18 years of sharing art with the masses with a group exhibition at the Copro Gallery. Releases / Benefits: Marion Peck – “The Salmon Spirit” Print

Earlier today, Marion Peck released a new limited edition print through Porterhouse Fine Art entitled The Salmon Spirit. This signed and numbered offering will be in an edition size of 100, 19″ x 20″, and priced at $300, with all proceeds going towards benefiting the Nature Conservancy. The “Pop Surrealism“ museum show AM recently previewed is now showing at the Carandente Museum in Spoleto, Italy. Put together by Rome’s Dorothy Circus Gallery, with assistance from New York’s Jonathan Levine Gallery, the exhibition brings together 45 artists from the new contemporary scene, including Mark Ryden, Marion Peck, Tara MacPherson, Jeff Soto, Travis Louie and a wonderful piece from Joe Sorren.
