Upcoming: Mark Jenkins – “Knock Knock” @ Ruttkowski;68

On October 21st, Mark Jenkins (interviewed) will be opening a show at Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne, Germany, his third solo with the gallery. Knock Knock will feature more of the American artist’s signature witty sculptures utilizing the human form, with the latest body of work a play on the classic joke. With these freestanding pieces, mimicking his installations on the streets, as well as the more indoor based sculptural canvas flats, Jenkins’ hopes to “metaphorically knock on the viewer’s mind, calling norms into question again.” Discuss Mark Jenkins here.

CONTEXT Art Miami was another popular satellite fair for this year’s Basel Week Miami. Paired up with Art Miami, these two events gathered huge crowds over the course of several days. Releases: Mark Jenkins – “Baby” Limited Editions

In association with the new solo from Mark Jenkins (interviewed) that just opened at the Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles (covered), the artist has released some limited editions through Freeway Editions. The Baby tape sculptures come in four different colors and are produced in a run of 10 each and is something every fan of the American street artist recognizes as the medium that is his original claim to fame. Openings: Mark Jenkins – “Still Life” @ Fabien Castanier Gallery

Over the weekend, a solo from Mark Jenkins (interviewed) opened at the Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles entitled Still Life. Aptly named, the exhibition featured mostly the American artist’s satirical and clever use of human forms as his form of art. Mirroring his street works, viewers can often time be taken unawares when thinking that his installations are actual people. Tomorrow night, September 5th, Mark Jenkins (interviewed) will be opening a solo show at Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles. Created while in town, the new body of work cleverly entitled Still Life will feature a series of site-specific installations including “three-dimensional canvases, incorporated taxidermy, a human birdhouse and anthropomorphic stringed instruments.” By working with sculptural forms that makes the viewer question what is real and what is not, the American artist is able to bring successfully what makes his street art so intriguing into the indoor […]

Openings: Mark Jenkins – “Moment of Impact” @ Lazarides Rathbone

Last week, Mark Jenkins (interviewed) premiered his debut solo show with Lazarides Rathbone entitled Moment of Impact. For his fans in London, the American artist has assembled a selection of provocative mixed media canvases and hyper-realist sculptures. Some pieces like his masked full-size figures are direct translations of his street interventions while others are produced for the gallery setting like the leg which seems to be bursting through a canvas or arms committing seppuku. Basel Week Miami ’14: Wunderkammern @ SCOPE

With Basel Week Miami in the rear view mirror, AM will now take time to highlight some of the individual artists and booths that caught our attention. One particular gallery’s offerings that we quite enjoyed at SCOPE (covered) was from Rome’s Wunderkarmmern, especially Mark Jenkins’ (interviewed) clever sculptural work (seen above). American artist Mark Jenkins opened his second solo with Ruttkowski;68 gallery in Cologne on Friday night.
