Preview: “Cat Art Show 2” @ Think Tank Gallery

From March 24-27, shortly after closing their cake-themed installation and special programing (covered), Think Tank Gallery in Los Angeles will be hosting the sequel group exhibition to 2014’s Cat Art Show. Over 70 artists including Mark Ryden, Marion Peck, C215, Adam Wallacavage, Tim Biskup, Kozyndan, Luke Chueh, Brandi Milne, Natalia Fabia, Travis Lampe, Cyrcle., Jean Pierre Arboleda (seen above) and Edwin Ushiro will be contributing pieces inspired by their feline friends. Releases: Mark Ryden – “Surrealist Plate”

Those who followed our coverage of Baby Tattooville last year probably remember one of the prized possessions attendees received during the event – a plate designed by Mark Ryden (interviewed). Featuring his iconic imagery, the “Surrealist Plate” was used during the special dinner prepared for the Surrealistic Ball (covered) he hosted with Marion Peck on the final night. Last week, the Paul Kasmin Gallery (293 Tenth Avenue location) unveiled a new solo from Mark Ryden featuring his first-ever bronze sculpture, eight new paintings, drawings, color studies, and a new porcelain edition. As he mentioned in our recent interview, the theme of his exhibition could be described as “the soul confronting its physical form,” with the Dodecahedron symbolizing a bridge between the physical world and the intangible realm. Releases: Mark Ryden – “Aurora” Lithographic Poster

On November 30th (8am PST), Porterhouse will be releasing a new lithographic poster from Mark Ryden entitled Aurora. The stunning image is taken from a 9 feet tall painting that the Los Angeles-based artist has prepared for his upcoming show in New York and is his biggest piece to date. Produced in a run of 500 and sized at 39″ x 21.25″, the edition will cost $500 and be available here at the appropriate time. Discuss Mark Ryden here.

Releases: Mark Ryden – “Lover’s Eye Brooch”

Continuing his longstanding collaboration with Porterhouse, Mark Ryden recently released the Lover’s Eye Brooch through their webstore. A similar item was given away at the Surrealist Ball during Baby Tattooville, with that prize being an original and this brooch being what looks to be an open edition. Baby Tattooville ’15: Mark Ryden Paintings

Our last piece of business to close out our coverage of this year’s Baby Tattooville is to show you the glorious sight that greeted attendees at brunch on Sunday, the morning after the once-in-a-lifetime experience of the Surrealist Ball hosted by Mark Ryden and Marion Peck. On Saturday night, attendees of this year’s Baby Tattooville at Riverside’s Mission Inn witnessed something that they will not soon forget for a very long time. The highlight of the annual art retreat (although this year’s was the last) was a Surrealist Ball hosted by none other than Mark Ryden and Marion Peck.
