AM recently visited Mary Iverson in her studio leading up to the open of her Sunk exhibition. With the work complete, it was time to take it to the masses at Davidson Galleries in Seattle. The large landscapes filled the space with nature, but the veil of over-population and consumerism permeated the scenes as etched lines and shipping containers. We recently visited Mary Iverson’s studio as she finished up works for her Sunk exhibition, opening on November 7th at the Davidson Galleries in Seattle. After receiving an art grant, Mary traveled to Yosemite National Park in order to gain some source material for her wonderful landscape paintings. In addition to the photographs she takes for reference, she also takes the opportunity to paint at location with water colors. Earlier this month, the Buddy System Invitational (curated by Sven Davis) opened at the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. The group exhibition centered on the interesting concept having each of the 22 invited artists bring along a fellow artist to exhibit alongside them with each contributing one 16 x 20″ & one 8 x 8″ artwork. Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. The work was hung on the walls in grids of 24 cards, each echoing the aspect ratio of the individual works themselves as each work was 6×4 inches. The variance of work encompassed photography […]

On the back of his Space//Form group exhibition last year (covered), Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis is working with Breeze Block Gallery in Portland again on another huge group event entitled Wider than a postcard. Later tonight, the Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting the opening for their latest group show – In Our Wake.
