Showing through April 20th at The Hole, Chicken or Beef is a group exhibition assembled by Danish curator Jesper Elg (co – founder and director of V1 Gallery in Copenhagen). Openings: Direct Address @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last week, we attended Joshua Liner’s opening of his new Chelsea gallery with a group exhibition entitled Direct Address. The expansive ground-floor space was filled with a impressive collection of works by The Clayton Brothers, David Ellis, Evan Hecox, Jean-Pierre Roy, Kris Kuksi (above), Richard Colman, Stephen Powers, SWOON, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Tony Curanaj and others. A little while back, AM attended the opening for WK Interact’s mid-career survey at Jonathan LeVine’s pop-up outpost. Little known fact: sometimes between the large scale murals by invited artists, the prominent Bowery & Houston wall also hosts temporary tribute projects in the interim such as the one held for Dash Snow after his passing in 2010 (covered). It’s always interesting to watch artists work on collaborations as they try to meld their different techniques and imagery together in a coherent fashion. One of the more successful artists in doing this is street artist and photographer JR (see his joint ventures with Vhils, Os Gemeos, André, Liu Bolin, and José Parlá in the past). The latest artist to work with the French photograffeur is NY-based sculptor Daniel Arsham featuring JR’s famous eye pasted inside Arsham’s sculptural elements. Discuss JR here. The Standard (Highline) in New York will be putting a new sculptural work from Kenny Scharf on display in the hotel’s plaza. Entitled Squirtz, the large physical personification of the Los Angeles-based artist’s imagery will be on view for the public through April 1st at which point it will move to the Paul Kasmin Gallery. Openings: COPE2 – “Hypnotic” @ Gallery 69

Bronx bomber and graff artist COPE2 continued his indoor showcases with a show at Gallery 69 in New York. Entitled Hypnotic, this exhibition is another step in the evolution of his signature bubble throw ups and wildstyle compositions. Cope2 worked layers upon layers of abstraction on this fresh series of canvases showing a nice change of pace from the works we’ve been used to seeing from his street works. Check it all out below.
