What up INTERNET!? Last week your boy… Hennessy Youngman presented a fresh show at Maurizio Cattelan’s Family Business Gallery. Initially invited by Marilyn Minter for an exhibition, Youngman decided to open up this opportunity to all the local artists to submit their artwork. The show entitled Itsa small, small world ended up being maxed out the first day with submitted artwork. Streets: D*Face (New York)

In March, D*Face (interviewed) paid a visit to New York City for a little Armory Week action. Not only did he hit up the Scope Art Fair (more on that later), he also left his mark on the streets by hand painting murals in both Manhattan and Brooklyn. Despite freezing temperatures, D worked the bricks with new imagery to delight the senses in both SOHO & Williamsburg. AM’s Joe Russo was on the scene to catch the action, check it out after the jump.

AM recently attended the Olek’s latest show at New York City’s Krause Gallery. Yes, we said NYC. The rogue urban crocheter was out on bail from the UK and returned to her hometown to do a show with David Peterson entitled Synthetic Nature. For this special event, Olek ditched her signature yarn and utilized balloons. Using synthetic rubber, she built an cave installation by weaving semi-inflated balloons in a way that would make even Krusty the Clown blush. The Hole Gallery continues to push the edge as their latest collaborative project between E.V. Day and Kembra Pfahler opened up this past Friday to a packed house. The title GIVERNY references impressionist legend Claude Monet’s estate located in Giverny, where E.V. Day stayed during her Munn Artist Residency. Inspired by the lily padded ponds located on the estate, E.V. invited Pfahler to the actual garden to shoot the photos in this exhibition. On Friday night, AM attended the opening for Ryan McGinness’ new show at New York’s Pace Primative. As the title Geometric Primitives indicates, Ryan utilizes his signature vocabulary of graphics and applies them to the African works that are at the core of the this specific gallery. Last month, Kehinde Wiley’s exhibition at The Jewish Museum of New York opened its doors to the public with a selection of large-scale paintings, including one in the museum’s permanent collection. The showing paired with some synergism the works from the Israel portion of the painter’s continuing The World Stage series (seen last year at Roberts & Tilton) with some of the traditional Jewish papercuts and textiles from institution’s collection. One of the mainstay satellite fairs during Armory Week is the Scope Art Fair. This year’s edition rocked a new location just blocks from the main Armory Art Show (here & here) and gained some fresh galleries go along with its revamped look.
