As with his last release through POW, Banksy will once again generously use his clout by donating the proceeds from the sale of a new poster to a good cause. Instead of going towards the bail set on imprisoned members of Russian subversive street art collective Voina, the money will go to the Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft, in an effort to help in the wake of the Bristol Tesco riots over the weekend. Last Thursday, AM was in London’s Soho district to attend the opening of Marks & Stencils: the Pictures On Walls Christmas season pop-up gallery exhibition, which in previous years has gone by the name of Santa’s Ghetto. There was a great atmosphere at the event. No doubt this was partly assisted by the deceptively strong cocktails being served, which led us to yet again repeat our mistake of equating “sweet drink” with “harmless drink”. What do we spy in the window through which the Marks and Stencils show we mentioned previously is being set up? AM has been keeping a close eye on AEC and Waone, who together form the Ukranian duo Interesni Kazki (Interesting Fairy Tales). Earlier this year, the two Kiev-based artists had a solo show at Galerie All Over in Lyon, France. Last month, original drawings by them were displayed at Pictures On Walls in a group show coinciding with the launch (featured) of Tristan Manco‘s new book, Street Sketchbook: Journeys. AM stopped by Paul Insect’s folio release event at Pictures on Walls last week to take a look at the ‘Unclear Residents‘ set. The evening presented a series of Paul’s screen-printed targets pasted about the walls, along with the selection of prints and a huge bank of page-spreads from the two limited zines available in the hand-made folio. Directly following the opening of his installation at NYC’s Standard Hotel, Australian artist Anthony Lister (interviewed) hauled across the pond to visit London for a few days. AM contributor Patrick Nguyen caught up with him on Friday for a chat and to take some photographs as Lister spray painted two shutters and the adjoining pillar at Pictures On Walls on Commercial Street.
