Update / Releases: “Ai Weiwei’s Blog: Writings, Interviews, and Digital Rants, 2006-2009″ Book

Perhaps foreshadowing his own fate, Ai Weiwei’s chilling last blog entry before it was taken down went as follows: “What can they do to me? Nothing more than to banish, kidnap, or imprison me. Perhaps they could fabricate my disappearance into thin air, but they don’t have any creativity or imagination. And they lack both joy and the ability to fly.” As the world unites in support of the safe and immediate release of the famous artist and activist after his recent detention (now missing […]

Publications: ‘Cement Eclipses’ by Isaac Cordal

Isaac Cordal has a pretty unique take on street art and after seeing his work online for a while, AM recently came across some of his concrete sculptures whilst wandering around the streets of London late at night with a group of friends in Brick Lane. One of our party, who shall not be named, found out the hard way that the little concrete guys are meant to stay in their surroundings rather than being taken for home consumption, as Isaac uses a high strength […]

Signings: José Parlá @ The Standard NY

Capping off an awesome Armory week opening at Bryce Wolkowitz, José Parlá & Standard New York held an intimate signing for the hometown fans. Held at the exclusive Boom Boom Room roof top lounge, fans enjoyed breathtaking views while they hung out at “José’s corner”. Mr. Parlá merrily greeted each supporter with the love and respect that we’ve come to expect from the humble artist. All who attended the signing were treated to a little calligraphic magic as José took time to personalize each book with […]

Signings: Marcel Dzama @ David Zwirner

AM recently got to attend a book signing at the David Zwirner gallery and catch Marcel Dzama’s book signing session. Held on a sunday afternoon, we caught up with Marcel as he graciously spoke and signed books for those that attended. Marcel also took some time to draw a beautiful little sketch for fans who patiently waited in a two hour queue. For those who haven’t seen pics from his current show at the New York gallery, take a look here. More photos from the […]

Set-up / Openings: Brian Adam Douglas – ‘Due Date’ @ Black Rat Projects

The solo exhibition Due Date by Brian Adam Douglas (interviewed) opened on Thursday 9 March to a full house at London’s Black Rat Projects. Douglas himself was fine form throughout the evening, chatting with visitors and signing copies of his new book, Paper cuts, published by Drago. Among the guests, AM spotted artists Peter Kennard, Matt Small (interviewed) and Giles Walker. Also present was Douglas’s New York dealer, Andrew Edlin of Andrew Edlin Gallery, who’d flown in the day before to attend. Due Date consists […]

Preview: Corey Arnold – “Fish-Work” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

Opening tonight at Fecal Face Dot Gallery in San Francisco is Fish-Work, a showing of images from photographer and fisherman Corey Arnold. The Portland based artist, who splits his time between capturing photographs and fish, will be offering a body of new work harvested from his recent three month fishing excursion in Europe, coupled with some older images from his seven year stint aboard the crab boat “Rollo” on the Bearing Sea. As an actual fisherman, who was featured on the first two seasons of […]

Releases: Kid Acne – ‘When the Smoke Clears’ Zine

AM got all enthused late last year over Kid Acne’s solo show (covered) at Concrete Hermit entitled When the Smoke Clears. For us, the defining part of the installation was the wall of small one-off screenprinted drawings in all their black and pink splendour. Well, if that monochromatic installation floats your boat, you can now thumb through the series of drawings in Kid Acne’s brand new When the Smoke Clears Zine. Produced with a screenprinted, embossed and numbered cover, the 52 page zine is available […]

AM favorite Fuco Ueda has been off US soil for a while now, but she has still been producing exquisite artwork. Bunkamura Gallery will hold a solo exhibition also titled “Lucid Dream” from Feb 2nd – Feb 13th to kick off the book release with new works by Fuco. Pre-order your copy here. Check out a sneak […]

Streets: Sweet Toof stops the press in London

Looks like Sweet Toof has been re-appropriating an undisclosed number of Metro newspapers in an interventionist culture-jamming caper. Sweet Toof has got his teef into the front, back and centrefold pages of the paper, so check today’s ‘free-press’ at underground tube stations throughout London and try and find a copy for yourself ahead of Sweet Toof’s exhibition opening tonight. Having A Dig opens at Arch 402 Gallery, Cremer Street, London E2 tonight, and runs until 3rd February. Discuss Sweet Toof here.
