Scott Campbell’s second showing with Galerie Gmurzynska’s St. Moritz (Via Serias) location recently opened, giving his fans in Switzerland a chance to admire a diverse range of works. The Smartest Thing I Ever Did Were Foolish Things For Love is dedicated to the theme of love, no doubt inspired by his recent marriage. Paintings, sculptures, cut currency works, as well as “fuse paintings,” which are created by drawing with gunpowder and then ignited, fill the space with examples of the Brooklyn-based artist’s recent creative output and “love statements.” […]

Scott Campbell & Wife Pose For New York Magazine Article

After finishing a unique and daring project as inspiration for the paintings in his solo in Los Angeles several months ago (covered), Scott Campbell has worked on something closer to home. On the cover of the latest issue of New York Magazine is his wife Lake Bell covered in his art and profiled in an article along with the tattoo artist. For now, Lake won’t be joining Scott with permanent body art as this piece was temporary, although technically she does have a small pea-sized tattoo. […]

Openings: Scott Campbell – “Things Get Better” @ OHWOW Gallery

Last night, Scott Campbell unveiled a new body of work in Los Angeles at OHWOW Gallery entitled Things Get Better. Mostly consisting of paintings of what he calls “Frankenguns,” jerry-rigged tattoo guns that he was able to make inside of jails in Mexico (with looser regulations than in the United States) and administer tattoos to inmates. Preview: Scott Campbell – “Things Get Better” @ OHWOW

Tomorrow night (May 23rd) at the OHWOW Gallery in Los Angeles, tattoo and fine artist Scott Campbell will be opening a new solo show entitled Things Get Better. The new series of ink paintings depict his “Frankenguns,” hand-made contraptions built inside prisons to administer tattoos to inmates. This culmination of a personal project he started two years ago took him to the inside of Mexican prisons with improvised tools, a true art form that contrasts with superficiality of the contemporary tattoo world. Leading things off this week is a video introducing the new Doggy Radio from Yoshitomo Nara.
