Weekend Chelsea Art Walk, Part 1

New York City is currently digging out from yet another snowstorm. But last weekend, the weather in New York was beautiful, and luckily, we took advantage of the brief window of sun to spend the day strolling around Chelsea popping in and out of art galleries. And even more luckily, we saw lots of amazing art – so much so that it was too much to talk about in just one post. So, enjoy part 1 of our virtual Chelsea stroll today, and check back […]

Preview: The 2010 Whitney Biennial

Art critic Charlie Finch just posted on artnet one of the first reviews of the 2010 Whitney Biennial, which officially opens tomorrow. As each Biennial is an attempt to take the pulse of contemporary art in America, it is usually a challenging show, spanning all mediums, which typically offers at least something of interest for any art lover. However, it seems that Finch thinks a little more highly of this Biennial, ending his review “This is not only the greatest of Whitney Biennials, it is […]

This show, named after the ancient Indian land of God, will be a ode to his childhood love for American comics, culture, and automobiles. As a bonus, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) […]

Showing: Aaron Young – “The Right Way To Do Wrong” @ Gagosian Gallery (Bevery Hills)

It’s not enough that Southern California currently enjoys perfect sunshiny weather while New York freezes. It also has to rub it in by currently being home to terrific shows with NYC-based artists Faile and Aaron Young – all under one roof.  Young, formerly of San Francisco and a Yale MFA, boasts a solo show in the first floor of the prestigious Gagosian Gallery in the famous 90210 zip code. Recently, AM visited the exhibition and would like to treat you all to what we saw. More […]

ARCO Madrid ’10: KAWS

Opening his solo show at Javier Lopez was not that only reason KAWS was in Madrid this week. He was also exhibiting at ARCO Madrid, one of the largest annual art fairs in Europe. Although his new body of work at the gallery was more of a continued exploration of his current style of work, this piece for the fair takes his abstraction to a whole new level with an irregular canvas and blocks of straight color. Experimentation or perhaps a hint of a new […]

Openings: Damon Soule – “Modus Alone” @ Thinkspace

Take a look at all of pics of “Modus Alone” after the jump…

Openings: “A Decade of Faile” @ Lazarides Gallery

The final stop on AM’s Thursday-night London openings hop was the 10 year retrospective at Lazarides Rathbone Place gallery from one of our favourite street art teams – Faile. “A Decade of Faile” gave us a glimpse of just about every facet of the Brooklyn artists’ oeuvre – with the exception of the most recent wooden block pieces. Carved wooden prayer wheels (featured)- first seen at the last London Laz show (covered), and just begging to be spun, the much loved boxes, early works on reclaimed wood, […]
