A couple weeks ago, AM stopped by the Jonathan LeVine Gallery to check out new works from AJ Fosik collectively entitled Against The Infinite. Inspired by The Denial of Death, a 1973 Pulitzer Prize-winning work of psychology and philosophy by Ernest Becker, the new sculptural works explore the idea that humanity has an “inherent struggle between its dualistic nature—a physical self and a symbolic self.” Along with free-standing works, there is also an installation piece from the Portland-based artist that is comprised of 30 individual animal faces […]

David McCracken – “Diminish and Ascend” @ Sculpture by the Sea

In Bondi, Australia, at the annual Sculpture by the Sea festival, David McCracken had a piece on view entitled Diminish and Ascend. The steps made from aluminum jut out on the side of a hill facing the sea and plays with perspectives to make it look like a never-ending path into the sky. As we march towards this year’s Art Basel Week in Miami, we’ll continue highlighting some events you may want to attend if you will be in the area. Next up is an exhibition from Tracey Emin’s entitled Angel Without You at the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, the first American museum to add one of the English artist’s work to their permanent collection. Just this passed September 11th, New York-based artist Daniel Arsham and music producer Pharrell Williams unveiled their first collaborative endeavor at The Standard East Village Hotel in New York City. On November 23rd, Seattle-based artist Mike Leavitt (interviewed) will be opening his solo show, Empire Peaks, at Jonathan LeVine Gallery where he will be debuting a brand new series of statuary. Berlin’s Circle Culture Gallery recently opened their third gallery space, in addition to its other two venues in Berlin (Mitte and Hamburg). Hailing from New York, Julia Chiang immerses the Midwest this fall with her work via Kansas City’s Bill Brady Gallery.
