Shepard Fairey (interviewed) recently unveiled a mural featuring his iconic imagery on the rooftop of Great Bowery, a fashion and art agency collective in Manhattan. Wrapped around a water tower (one of our favorite things to see painted), the piece entitled Power & Equality was meant to celebratet the LES Girls Club and board member Rosario Dawson for everything they do in the neighborhood. Streets: Peanuts Global Artist Collective (New York)

As mentioned in our introduction to the Peanuts Global Artist Collective earlier this month, murals featuring the work of some of the participating artists were unveiled in New York. Painted on the side of downtown office buildings on the West Side near Hudson Square, imagery inspired by Charles M. Streets: Mehdi Ghadyanloo – “Spaces of Hope” (Boston)

Mehdi Ghadyanloo was recently invited in by the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy in Boston to paint his first mural in America. The prolific Tehran-based artist worked on the large 70 x 76 foot wall in Boston’s Dewey Square Park (also painted by Os Gemeos in 2012) over the course of tree weeks creating a piece he calls Spaces of Hope, featuring some of his signature surrealist imagery. We just received these photos of new works by Pejac created few days ago in Hong Kong. The artist who is known for his witty concepts recently spent a few days in a former British colony leaving several diverse works throughout the city. Tackling the problems of overpopulation and limited rights, the “Umbrella Revolution” as well as Chinese tradition, most of the works were very small in scale but large in their message. Yesterday, we headed down to Coachella, not the annual music and arts festival, but to the city itself. Despite the associated name of the huge yearly revenue source nearby, the taxes go to the city of Indio with the actual city of Coachella remaining a poor farming community. After we visited his literal outdoor gallery installation last Friday, Banksy continued his assault on the streets of New York over the weekend. Adding a video in Staten Island (below) that completed his tour of all five boroughs, Mr. B also created a clever strength tester stencil piece (below) utilizing existing elements, and a new one in South Bronx to start your Monday off (above). Following the opening of his latest solo show in San Francisco (covered), prolific traveler and street artist ROA has landed in South Africa for ART JOBURG. Presented by adidas Originals, the month long project brings in five muralists (also including Remed, Steve “ESPO” Powers, Falko, and Cameron Platter) into the heart of Maboneng Precinct in Johannesburg’s central art district for large-scale public art. Artists Simon Hjermind Jensen, Theis Wendt, Anders Schmidt and Silas Inoue recently completed a pretty sweet collaboration mural in Odinsgade, Copenhagen featuring a giant tanker. Utilizing architectural elements like the chimney as well as existing graffiti, the grounded ship is a striking addition to the capital of Denmark.
