Streets: Miss Van (Brazil)

Street femme fatale and intrepid traveller Miss Van has been spotted in frolicking in Brazil, in particular getting up in Sao Paulo. While visiting friends like Zezao and Ciro Schu, she took time to paint one of her signature Poupee characters near an abandoned factory – one of her first outdoor pieces for 2013. Another week, another Streets: World Roundup. For this edition, our headlining mural is from the Los Angeles-based Andrew Hem (interviewed). This latest piece located on the rooftops of Koreatown features a break dancing character painted with a background that is meant to blend in with the sky under certain conditions. Streets: Interesni Kazki (India)

As you saw from one of our Streets: World Roundup articles earlier this month, Waone from Interesni Kazki has been traveling through India. It looks like he was able to keep painting as photos a new mural entitled Sadhu have been recently released. The wall located in south-west region of Kerala on the Malabar coast features locally influenced imagery on topics like meditation and the peacock dance that is common in the region. Streets: Philippe Baudelocque (Paris)

French street muralist Philippe Baudelocque recently painted a new piece in his home city in his signature style. The gorilla joins his menagerie of animals that have made it onto walls in Paris, rendered in a patchwork of abstract patterns. This was placed on the door of Magnum Photo’s Paris office. Newly formed art collective devNgosha recently stopped by the offices of theAudience and painted a new mural entitled Connected. Situated in the same building that houses work from JR (covered) and Kozyndan (covered), this new multi-wall project combines the talents of Devin Liston and Gosha Levochkin. Streets: Roa & Ever (Buenos Aires)

The anatomical dissections of local animals and Chinese propaganda, two types of imagery that you wouldn’t think would work as a collaboration. However, that is exactly what happened when ROA and Ever joined forces in Argentina for a joint mural entitled The people feed communism to the beast. This piece, painted over the Christmas holiday, was placed on a squatted building in Palermo Viejo in Buenos Aires and features Mao head offered up to an elephant seal. Photo credit: Graffitimundo. Streets: Escif – “The Flowers Of Evil” Series

Prolific artist Escif recently started a series of murals entitled Les Fleurs Du Mal, or The Flowers of Evil painted in different cities in Europe like Besançon (France), Zagreb (Croatia), Navarra & Albacete (Spain), Niort (France), and his home city of Valencia (Spain). The different species of flowers (like hemlock, nightshade, wolfsbane, and more), all beautiful in their own right, all have deadly effects when combined with human biology. It’s been a while since we caught up with Brian Adam Douglas, a.k.a. Elbow-Toe (interviewed) – the last time probably being in 2011 when we watcheuphill work on the streets as well as open a solo at Black Rat Projects (covered). The Brooklyn-based artist recently surfaced to paste up this new piece entitled Tastes Like Chicken in his borough. Continuing to produce public displays of his geometric mastery, James Marshall aka Dalek (interviewed) recently painted another mural at the Hobie Surf Shop in Corona Del Mar. Orange County is kind of ground zero for fans of the American artist’s work because of his affiliation with Hurley – leading to many shows, product lines, and associated events in and around Hurley Space.
