Streets: JR – Williamsburg (New York)

Yesterday, street photograffeur JR (featured) spent the day creating a fresh mural in Brooklyn. The large building located at 338 Berry St. was in a prime spot overlooking the Williamsburg bridge and its oncoming traffic. Utilizing his signature photography and large-scale wheatpasted handiwork, the French artist made sure to give everyone in the area something to look at. JR invited AM to shoot he and his team as they scaled the eight story building in a monstrous cherry picker (aka. Boom Lift). It took hours to get […]

Streets: Os Gemeos (Boston)

Although already open to the public as of a couple days ago, the Boston ICA will be celebrating the start of the Os Gemeos exhibition (previewed) today with a waterfront launch party, complete with Caipirinhas, Brazilian street food, and DJs who will take visitors to the heart of the artists’ native São Paulo. For those lucky enough to be in Beantown, make sure you stop by the main mural at Dewey Square (former site of Occupy Boston near South Station) where the twins have painted one of […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (Denver)

Tomorrow night (August 3rd) in Denver, the Black Book Gallery will host a three person show from Shepard Fairey, Evan Hecox, and Jim Houser. The Mile-High City last saw Shep’s work at Manifest Hope during the 2008 Democratic National Convention, but if the art community has forgotten, the OBEY crew has been up and about putting up reminders with stickers, stencils and wheat pastes. Discuss Shepard Fairey here.

Streets: Wall Therapy Festival (Part II) – Faith47

A couple days ago, we shared with you the mural that DALeast painted for the Wall Therapy Festival in Rochester, New York. His partner in crime, Faith47 was also on hand as she painted her own wall for the event. The piece is entitled Rhapsody and features the religious iconography that is often seen in the South African street artist’s work. More detailed photos below… Discuss Faith47 here.

Streets: Olek (Washington DC)

While in town for the 40 Under 40: Craft Futures showing at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Olek decided to gift the city with one of her signature yarn statue takeovers (here & here). This time she yarn-bombed the 12-foot tall Albert Einstein statue on the grounds of the National Academy of Sciences in Washington DC. Check out more in-progress shots of her and her assistants at work below as well as the finished photo. Via My Modern Met. Discuss Olek here.

Streets: Desordes Creativas Festival (Part II) – Ericailcane

On many occasions in the past, where you find Italian street artist Blu putting in work, you will see his equally gifted compatriot Ericailcane getting up as well. The Desordes Creativas Festival in Spain is no different (see Blu’s piece here) as the “Eric the Dog” has produced a mural in his narrative style featuring what look to be the prey revolting against the “king” bird. The gifted street painter certainly has a way of composition and style that makes the viewer wonder what part of an epic tale […]

Streets: World Roundup (July 23 – July 29)

This week’s roundup sees the return of David Ellis to the streets after the massive mural painted in Brooklyn last month. This latest tree piece was commissioned by Converse as part of they Wall to Wall campaign and features Ellis’ sinuous pattern (photo by Justin Carlson and courtesy of Joshua Liner Gallery). The location is on 23rd Street and 12th Ave in Chelsea, just a short walk from the Joshua Liner Gallery which recently curated a show with Ellis and Kris Kuksi in Los Angeles.  Other notable work this week […]

Check out a photo set of the walls below as well as some in-progress shots. Photo credit: James Ng for Arrested Motion.

Streets: Desordes Creativas Festival (Part I) – Blu

We haven’t heard much from Blu (since April in Morocco), but it looks like the the Italian street savant has made the short trip over to Spain recently for the Desordes Creativas Festival. Set in the town of Ordes, the has a nice lineup of participants including Ericailcane, Liqen, Sam3 and more. For now, check out this amazing new wall from Blu featuring a horde of vegetables jumping into a blender, painted with some of his his signature dark humor. Tipped off by Savage Habit. Discuss Blu here.

Streets: Phlegm (New York)

Sheffiield-based street muralist Phlegm recently made a trip out to New York and it looks like he brought along instruments of his trade as he put up multiple murals in Manhattan at the Fulton housing project on West 17th. Featuring his intricate imagery, the pieces follow his characters as they handle enigmatic and complex contraptions and gadgets. On interest, he also added one of his creatures to an existing piece by Israeli street artist Know Hope leading to an interesting collaboration after the fact. For a […]
