Last weekend, Subliminal Projects played host to “Pattern Recognition”, a group exhibition from a great set of artists including Seonna Hong, Nikki McClure, Dalek (interviewed), Richard Colman (interviewed), and Souther Salazar. Particularly eye catching for us were the colorful works of Seonna and Souther although the works of Dalek and Colman seemed to fit the premise of the show a little more closely. On November 6th, Subliminal Projects will be opening a new show “Pattern Recognition”. The premise behind the title is that each artist included has in some way produced work that consists of reoccuring events or objects, not just in a literal sense though. Show up on Saturday night and you will be treated to the works of Seonna Hong, Nikki McClure, Dalek (interviewed), Richard Colman (interviewed), and Souther Salazar (some in progress works seen above). Of note, Souther will be reassembling his fantastic “Alejandro” installation […]
For those of you who grew up on Ed Emberley’s drawing books, you may want to take a trip down memory lane tonight at the Scion Space in Los Angeles. The “Ed Emberley & Friends” exhibition will feature Emberley as well as five artists who were inspired by him – Raul Gonzalez, Saelee Oh, Matt Leines, Christopher Kline and Seonna Hong (seen above). Each will create a 6′ x 6′ panel with their interpretations of Emberley’s work. Take a look at more of her work […]
The first stop of the Culver City Artwalk for AM was the group show at LeBasse Projects. Along with a strong lineup of gallery regulars, artists new to us such as Jean-Pierre Roy were featured during this annual event. His colorful paintings of imaginary landscapes drew us in with their dream-like vibrancy and fancy. More pics after the jump…
AM recently swung by San Fran’s Japantown to check out the opening of LeBasse Projects weekend pop up gallery. The four day show highlights several members of LeBasse’s roster, artists like Yoskay Yamamoto (featured), Nate Frizell (featured) and Edwin Ushiro (interviewed) were all on hand to celebrate the opening. Additionally, Beau stepped up his game with a couple curve balls for SF residents, debuting some new pieces by internationally renowned artists Herakut (interviewed), Seonna Hong and Alexandros Vasmoulakis. The Pop Up show ends tomorrow, Sunday […]
You may remember us posting some photos from Melissa Haslam’s studio a while back. Check out this music video “Fountain” that Seonna Hong worked on for her friend – singer Sara Lov. Utilizing the delicate imagery and patterns from Hong (animated by Marco Morandi), the beautiful video successfullly brings her paintings to life. We are definitely looking forward to more projects like this from Hong as well as other artists we like. Check out other successful music collaborations we have covered in the past here. Discuss Seonna Hong here.
AM recently attended the festive opening of Jonathan LeVine Gallery’s summer group show, entitled Beach Blanket Bingo. Chilling and chatting by the inflatable palm oases with a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon was a fun way to appreciate works by the over thirty participating artists, including Matt Haber, Seonna Hong, Elbow Toe, Richard Colman and Ron English. Check out the images after the jump for a selection of our favorites.
A pretty impressive group show is being assembled at Jonathan Levine Gallery entitled “Beach Blanket Bingo – A Summer Mixer,” set to open on August 5th. An appropriate name for the show as there definitely seems to be a eclectic “mix” of artists including Ana Bagayan (featured), Glenn Barr, Ray Caesar, Dave Cooper, David Ellis, Ron English (studio visit), Natalia Fabia (interviewed), Korin Faught, AJ Fosik, Logan Hicks (interviewed), Seonna Hong, Anthony Lister (interviewed), Jack Long, Cleon Peterson, Scott Radke (interviewed), SKINNER, ELBOW-TOE (interviewed), Adam […]
We love the concept behind this group show opening this Saturday, June 20th, at Sloan Fine Art in NY. “+2” sees 24 artists previously exhibited by Alix Sloan invited to participate in the group show, along with 2 other artists of their choice – hence the plus 2 title. The show opens alongside Jonathan Viner’s Harem” also in the gallery. Read on more details and images after the jump…
