Artists who have have been featured here on AM continue to be viable options for restaurants that want a distinctive interior for their customers. Several months ago, INSA was in Shanghai where he oversaw the completion of his collaboration with Architect INDJ on the decor of G九上海 (G9 Shanghai). After sharing photos of the high profile installation and an in depth look at the creation of new commissioned pieces for his new show in Shanghai, we now turn our attention to Cai Guo-Qiang’s explosive opening festivities at the Power Station of Art. The multi-color aerial spectacular hosted at the riverfront of the museum was a crowd pleaser and highlighted the firework art skills from the Chinese artist. After a look at the The Ninth Wave, a fishing boat installation from Cai Guo-Qiang’s hometown of Quanzhou carrying 99 fabricated animals, we now turn our attention to the exhibition with the same name at the Power Station of Art. Continuing his recent work encompassing the animal kingdom (see 2013), explosive artist Cai Guo-Qiang has created a new striking installation on the Huangpu River in Shanghai. During AM‘s recent trip we stopped by the streets of Shanghai to participate in the phenomenon that is the Inside / Out photobooth truck. Next to follow that up, we stopped by Magda Danysz to catch JR’s (interviewed) latest show. At the end of last year, we had a chance to see for ourselves the genius of Yayoi Kusama while she was showing in New York (here & here). Leandro Erlich – “Shikumen House” (Shanghai)

Argentinian artist and visual art illusionist Leandro Erlich recently re-created the installation piece that was on display in London (covered) and transported the concept to Shanghai. As part of his first showing in China, the site-specific piece delighted passer-bys at the Jing An Kerry Center in the port city. Utilizing a large angled mirror and a facade that brings Chinese and Western architectural cues together, known as a Shikumen House, the structure allowed people to live out their fantasies of dangling from a building without the danger.
