With Greg Simkins’ “The Pearl Thief” exhibition opening next Tuesday at Gallery1988, we thought we’d visit Greg and see how things were wrapping up. Professional, organized, and family oriented – those are the first things that come to mind when first stepping into Greg’s studio. These same themes continue throughout the rest of the studio’s rooms. Greg was finishing up one of his last paintings for the upcoming show when we dropped by, but took a little break to give us a tour. In addition […]

On October 3rd, up and coming stencil artist FrePrs held his first solo at Galeria Con Safos in Santa Ana. We took notice of his bright and bold color combos which went great with his fresh and clean stencil techniques. FrePrs made sure there were plenty of mediums available for attendees to enjoy from canvas to prints. Judging from this impressive debut solo, we will be looking forward to seeing what he has planned for the future. See the opening night pics after the jump.

Looks like Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) has been working through some ideas recently for her upcoming show “Penumbra” alongside Amy Sol (teased) in November at Copro Gallery. Stella’s versatile showing at Thinkspace Gallery in July left her many options to pursue, but this new show, tentatively speaking, will probably focus on works on paper and perhaps wood. Also, as if Stella and Amy weren’t enough, Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed) will be showing concurrently with them. More images from Stella and showcard after the jump…
This is a show that we’ve been waiting patiently for. Evan Hecox is finally visiting New York and taking over the entire Joshua Liner Gallery. For his first solo with the gallery, Evan’s focus will be of […]
After a successful showing at Joshua Liner Gallery (covered), Yumiko Kayukawa hops over to the west coast to hit up Shooting Gallery for her next conquest – “Wild Wild East.” The November 14th show is a whiles away, but we thought you’d drool over this bad-ass little teaser. Discuss Yumiko Kayukawa here.

Collectors, admirers and famous faces alike crammed into the new Lazarides location, which has been named “The Rathbone.” AM was at the private view opening on Thursday the 14th and the house was packed. Even those on the invite-only guest list had to queue outside for a chance to get in and see the latest installment of the “Outsiders” show. Many of the artists, including Antony Micallef, Conor Harrington (interviewed) and […]
