Upcoming: Maya Hayuk – “Grow Room” @ Alice Gallery

On 3rd of March Maya Hayuk will be back at Alice Gallery in Brussels to open her third solo with the gallery – Grow Room. From the few preview images we’ve seen, the show will include more complex compositions from the Brooklyn-based artist. Through intricate patterns and lush colors, Hayuk creates paintings and murals that recall traditional Ukrainian crafts, airbrushed manicures, and mandalas. Both rebelliously psychedelic and strictly symmetric, her works balance between creating a visual illusion and reusing orthodox weaving patterns. The new pieces look to be further experimentations, […]

Showing: Pedro Matos – “Less Than Objects” @ Underdogs

Currently at Underdogs in Lisbon, a show from Pedro Matos is on view through April 2nd. Less Than Objects continues a line of work that the Portuguese artist last exhibited at the end of last year in Milan (covered) that are rendered mostly on linen canvases. Some of the abstract textures painted by the Matos seem to mimic the beautiful decay and imperfections seen in urban settings, not surprising when taking into account his time spent on the streets as a young artist. Recap: Vincent Van Gogh Flower Parade (Netherlands)

If you are the birthplace of Vincent Van Gogh, you are allowed to commemorate the 125th anniversary of his death in style. Zundert, a small town in the Netherlands near the Belgian border dedicated their annual celebration, the world’s largest volunteer-run flower parade to the influential Dutch post-Impressionist painter. The 20 floats were all impressively created with Van Gogh’s recognizable style in mind with painstaking detail. Photo credit: Werner Pellis & Erwin Martens (via Slate).

On the 19th of February, Galleria Varsi in Rome opened a solo show by Italian street artist Pixelpancho. Known for large murals that incorporate elements of his country’s rich history combined with vintage, futuristic, and even steampunk elements, Pixelpancho approached installing this show in a similar manner. Turning the whole interior into a piece, where exhibited works on paper and canvas were only details of the greater installation, […]
