Openings: “The Baxter Collection” @ Roq La Rue

Roq La Rue changed it up for this month’s opening. The works on display are from the personal collection of the Baxter family, who are selling some of their collection to move overseas. Wunderkammern Gallery in Rome is launching their international project Public and Confidential on Sept 28th with the opening of a solo show by Brooklyn based artist, Dan Witz. Referring to the phrase often used to classify secret documents, the idea is to explore the works of artists that are active both in public and private spheres. Releases: Haroshi x Uniful Limited Edition Skateboards

On September 5th, Japanese artist Haroshi (featured) introduced his limited edition skateboard decks released through Japanese skateboarding company Uniful. Thug For Life in the Shibuya district of Tokyo was packed with people that were interested in this release that instantly became hit in Asia. Along with the signed and numbered decks, the artist introduced a new sculpture that was made especially for this event. Previews: APAK – “Stardust Dreams” @ Outré Gallery

On Friday (September 13th), the Melbourne and Sydney locations of Outré Gallery will be hosting new works from APAK. Stardust Dreams is the name of the twin showcase from the artistic duo and will feature luminous paintings of their whimsical creatures and their friends in a cosmic setting. Nuart ’13: Part V – M-City, C215, Faith47

This Tuesday sees yet more photos from this year’s Nuart Festival (see previous years) where artists continued to throw up murals. Openings: Ryan McLennan – “Fabrications” @ David B. Smith Gallery

Last Friday was the opening night of Ryan McLennan’s newest show Fabrications at the David B. Smith Gallery in Denver. LA based artist Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) recently released a new book 20 Years Works through Zero+ Publishing. Along with the book release the artist opened a solo show at Western Project on September 7th, presenting a selection of works from the new hardcover book, and the official book launch and signing is scheduled for September 14, at 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the same venue. This Saturday night (September 14th), the Known Gallery in Los Angeles will be presenting Thanks for Nothing, a two person show featuring Judith Supine and Alia Shawkat. For his part, Supine has prepared a new body of work including eighty small originals and six large scale pieces.
