MTV VMA Moonman Reinvented By KAWS

Upcoming: Ekundayo for “Reflections of a New Generation” @ Thinkspace Gallery

On July 13th, the Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting the opening for a three-person show from Ekundayo (interviewed), Adam Caldwell, and Joram Roukes entitled Reflections of a New Generation. For his part, the LA-based Ekundayo has been hard at work in the studio creating new paintings for the show featuring his grotesque and surreal characters. Upcoming: “Takashi in Superflat Wonderland” @ Plateau, Samsung Museum of Art

Today in South Korea, Takashi Murakami opened a new exhibition at Plateau, Samsung Museum of Art featuring over 40 of his artworks. Takashi in Superflat Wonderland will include recent works, but is also a retrospective, and puts the core “Superflat” philosophy behind his art on display. Upcoming: Luke Chueh – “Random Acts of Sadness” @ Corey Helford Gallery

After a more exploratory body of work in 2011 (covered) where he worked with his take on contemporary art, it looks like Luke Chueh (featured) will return to Corey Helford with a collection of paintings closer to to his signature oeuvre. Streets: Liu Bolin (New York)

It looks like Chinese artist Liu Bolin was back in New York again recently since the last time he was in the Big Apple when we hung out with him and JR as they worked on an interesting collaborative project together. Openings: “California-Pacific Triennial” @ OCMA

Over the weekend, AM stopped by the Orange County Musuem of Art to take a look at the 2013 California-Pacific Triennial that just opened, in particular Mark Dean Veca’s (interviewed) installation. Along with some paintings he submitted, the Los Angeles-based artist also painted a room with his signature patterns and added some interesting adornments. Openings: A New Sculpturalism @ MOCA Geffen

Opening last week at MOCA’s Geffen location was A New Sculpturalism, a show that examines the work of thirty-eight major and emerging practices in contemporary Los Angeles architecture of the past twenty-five years. Well-known legends represented in the show include Frank Gehry, Thom Mayne, and Eric Owen Moss, while younger architects, such as Elena Manferdini (Atelier Manferdini), Marcelo Spina and Georgina Huljich (P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S), and Tom Wiscombe (Tom Wiscombe Design) show off their abilities with three full-scale built projects, or pavilions. Streets: Sam3 (Denmark)

After hitting up the Mediterranean coastline with some inventive murals, Spanish artist Sam3 headed to Denmark to participate in a new event. Located in the old Danish city of Horsens, the project Public Art saw the silhouette master get up twice at the port and once in the center of the town.
