Openings: Kenichi Yokono – “Rise of the Underground” @ Mark Moore

Last weekend, alongside Jeremy Fish, the Mark Moore Gallery also featured the work of Kenichi Yokono. The last time we had an opportunity to take in a large body of work from the Japanese artist, it was 2009 and we were at Art Basel Miami week. Rise of the Underground featured more of his signature carved woodblocks and it was a joy to examine his intricate details close up. This time around, some of his piece included skateboard-like elements to the compositions. Enjoy more photos […]

Teaser: Faile – Fragments of Faile @ Lazarides (Rathbone)

As you know, Faile (featured) has been hard at work creating the mural for the iconic Houston & Bowery wall in New York. But, what we left out for the past year was the fact that they were secretly in their lab putting together a new show together for their fans in London. Details are tight as they’ve decided to keep this show a surprise but from what we know, the collective will be taking it to a whole new level when the new work is […]

Streets: D*Face (Melbourne)

With D*Face’s (interviewed) solo opening tonight at the Metro Gallery, it’s about time we updated you on his work in the streets leading up to the show. From the looks of things, his oversized spray can installations seem to be popular, but check out the other photos of D getting his logo up all over Melbourne, as well as an invitation to join the Order of the Wings. Pics after the jump…

FIAC Coverage

Following the Frieze week in London (covered here), AM headed off to Paris to visit the FIAC, the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain in Paris at the Grand Palais, host to 168 galleries. While Frieze focuses exclusively on contemporary art, the FIAC also combines early 20th century modern art with the contemporary. Of interest, Karl Lagerfeld designed the booth of Zurich’s Gallery Gmurzynska for the Rebels curated by Isabelle Bscher and featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein, Andy Warhol as well as Banksy and Scott Campbell. […]

After hosting the first part of their 25th anniversary group show last month, La Luz De Jesus makes room for the opening of round two of the festivities on November 4th. With such a rich and storied tradition and one of the early visionaries in the game, Billy Shire, as the gallery owner, the long list of participants necessitated splitting the celebration into two parts. Next up is a lineup that includes Ana Bagayan, Shawn Barber, Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, Bob Dob, Michael Hussar, Jordin Isip, Jessica […]

Last weekend, the Jaski Gallery provided the walls for Tessar Lo as he presented a whole new collection of a paintings for fans in Amsterdam. Entitled The Dying Wishes, the new work built on an abstracted style that the Toronto-based artist has been developing for a while now. The continued refinement and practice certainly seems to have paid off as the resulting pieces on display were rich in palette, balanced in composition, and visually lush. Take a look at more opening photos after the jump courtesy of Erratic Phenomena […]
