Openings: Todd “REAS” James – “Great Adventure” @ Galeria Javier López

Just hours ago, Todd “REAS” James’ show at Galeria Javier López opened it’s doors to the “Great Adventure”. It turns out, the adventure was a tongue-in-cheek way of referring to wars and the associated atrocities that come with it. Much like his show earlier this year in NY at Gering & López (covered), James’ cartoonish portrayal of the machinations of war include smiling tanks shooting out blood, funny-faced missiles romping around, nude female soldiers frolicking around in the mayhem, and much more. Seeing the chaos […]

Teaser: Korin Faught & Mia @ Corey Helford Gallery

Showing with Krista Huot (whose work we previewed yesterday) at Corey Helford this weekend will be the talented Mia (interviewed) and Korin Faught. Those attending the show will be impressed by Mia’s storytelling and all the details she packs into her paintings, framed like a scene from greek mythology or epic fantasy novel. Fans of Korin Faught point to her honest portraits of the female form and her use of lighting as aspects of her work worthy of admiration. See for yourself. More preview images […]

Update: Brian Viveros

Last week, AM had the pleasure of stopping by Brian Viveros’ studio where he was putting the finishing touches on a new body of work for his upcoming show at Thinkspace. We’re looking forward to sharing the full studio visit with you as well as some of our thoughts next week, but for now feast your eyes on this sick piece featuring an amazing Mickey skull “day of the dead” mask. For those familiar with Brian’s work, you will realize why this works on so […]

Showing: Jeff Koons – “Popeye Sculpture” @ Galerie Jerome De Noirmont

Jeff Koons recently opened his latest solo exhibition at Galarie Jerome De Noirmont, further exploring his “Popeye Sculpture” series. Filling the Paris space with some of his signature “balloon” sculptures perched precariously in various formations, Koons brings new life to the works while adding some new twists like an appearance by Olive Oyl. Visiting Paris now would be an ideal time for contemporary art lovers as Koons and his pal Murakami at Versailles pack a nice one-two punch. More images from Koons’ show after the […]

Teaser: Todd “REAS” James @ Galeria Javier López

On Wednesday, Todd James aka REAS’ will be opening his first solo show in Madrid at Galeria Javier López. Judging from the show card and sneak peeks, the work will be a continuation of his last solo earlier this year in New York at Gering & López. Those attending the show will see the Deitch Street Market alum’s vision of a “Great Adventure” sure to include soldiers, cartoonish tanks, bombs, blood, women, and more… Discuss Todd “REAS” James here.

Openings: Herakut – “Hope’s Reply” @ LeBasse Projects

AM stopped by LeBasse Projects this past weekend to attend the opening of “Hope’s Reply”, collaborative duo Herakut’s newest solo show. Melding a perfect combination of the raw stylings of the beautiful Hera (interviewed) and the amazing photorealism of Akut, the German street duo impressed with the richness and whimsy of their new body of work. We were also pleasantly surprised to see that the artists decided to work on an installation for this show as it was originally billed as having a more of […]

Openings: Anthony Lister @ The Standard Hotel – NYC

Last week, AM attended the opening for Anthony Lister’s (interviewed) art installation for the Standard Hotel in NYC. This unique exhibition has Anthony creating a special sculpture edition of masks, guns, knives and more using his renowned style. Each mixed media original is hand created and painted by Mr. Lister with 30 pieces in the collection created exclusively for the Standard. Most of the works were snatched up immediately, but you may contact the store to purchase remaining pieces here. Even though the city was overloaded […]

Openings: Mark Dean Veca – “When The Shit Hits The Fan” @ Western Project

Last night, Western Project hosted “When The Shit Hits The Fan”, the newest solo show from Mark Dean Veca (featured). The spacious Culver City gallery was a nice backdrop for Mark’s impressive large scale paintings featuring his highly stylized renderings of familiar pop icons. The body of work is Mark’s reaction to the world today, a sort of an artistic state of the union address detailing his thoughts behind the economy, war, greed, corporate malfeasance, and more. More opening pics after the jump…

Teaser: Martin Wittfooth – “Gardens” @ Roq La Rue

We recently saw a painting from Martin Wittfooth for his upcoming show at Roq La Rue and our jaws dropped – the phrase “next level” comes to mind. This beautiful new piece, “The Devil’s Playground”, will be part of a new body of work entitled “Gardens’ for the Seattle gallery in December.  We’ll have more to follow but take a look at the show card after the jump and you may see a theme developing as hinted at by the title of the show.

Fame Fest ’10: Slinkachu

Probably one of the last artists (see other artists here) to stop by Grottaglie before the Fame Festival opening next weekend is street miniature photographer Slinkachu. The London-based artist worked his magic with his street installations in the Italian town that would probably go unnoticed if you didn’t know where to look. Fortunately, he documents and photographs his clever works for all to enjoy. More pics after the jump…
