Previews: “Pop Surrealism” @ Carandente Museum in Spoleto

Rome’s Dorothy Circus Gallery and New York’s Jonathan Levine Gallery have joined forces to bring together some of the biggest names in the new contemporary scene for a museum exhibition in Italy entitled “Pop Surrealism”. The exhibition is to be held in the Umbrian town of Spoleto at the Carandente Museum from June 26th until October 15th 2010 with the opening tying in with the town’s annual arts festival – “Festival dei 2 Mondi“. As we hinted in an earlier teaser post, AM was very happy to have another chance to visit with Todd Schorr (interviewed) ahead of his show at the renowned Otis College of Art and Design this weekend (June 26th). Openings: Barry McGee & Clare Rojas @ Bolinas Museum

This past Saturday marked the opening of Barry McGee and Clare Rojas’ exhibition “Leave It Alone” & “Together At Last” (respectively) at the Bolinas Museum. The quaint community in northern California landed a double-stack of works featuring both iconic artists. We last saw the dynamic duo showing together last spring at New Image Art and this time the latest exhibition was indeed museum-worthy. Our friends at Hi-Fructose have recently posted pics from “Daydreams”, a show from Mark Brown (interviewed) that we previewed last week. For his first solo in San Francisco, the artist brought paintings, drawings, and a print featuring his colorful cast of characters.

Openings: Pedro Matos – “Reality Show” @ Montana Shop & Gallery

Lisbon based street artist, Pedro Matos recently opened up his solo show at the Montana Shop & Gallery. “Reality Show” featured several paintings, installations, wall murals, and what looked to be a enthusiastic crowd. Openings: Art Shack @ Laguna Art Museum

Last weekend, the Laguna Art Museum opened their doors to crowds of art fans anxious to check out the newest exhibition – Art Shack. The group show included installations by artists like Mike Shine (featured), Martin Wittfooth, Kenny Scharf, Clayton Brothers (featured), and Jeff Gillette (who showed recently in LA) with a fantastic three-dimensional representation of his signature “slum” imagery.
