Upcoming: Josh Keyes – “Implosion” @ Thinkspace Gallery

On August 5th, Los Angeles will finally getting that big solo show from Josh Keyes (interviewed) at Thinkspace Gallery that his fans have been waiting for all these years. It looks as though Implosion will have some paintings that continue his recent works that feature graffiti in natural and unusual settings. Recap: POW! WOW! DC 2017

The Washington D.C. edition of POW! WOW! recently returned in 2017 with another 15 artists creating murals in the NoMa district. Local artists CHELOVE, JD Deardourff, Jordann Wine, Julia Chon, Key Han, Martin Swift, Mas Paz, and Matt Corrado joined artists traveling from afar – Kaplan Bunce (Hawaii), Madsteez (California), STASH (Brooklyn) – seen above, TRAV (California), It’s a Living (Mexico), Muro (Spain), and Qbic (Russia) in painting walls in the neighborhood at a number of locations such as the Metropolitan Branch Trail and the new AVA apartment building at 55 M Street NE. Streets: Aryz (Germany)

Painting through Mother’s Day weekend, Aryz recently finished a new mural in Saarbrücken, Germany. Painted for the people behind Artwalk – Saarbrücken, the new piece from the Spanish artist featured some tiles that are a small reference to his mother’s work. Take a look at more in-progress photos below that document him creating yet another memorable wall with his signature pastel still-life imagery, this time with a little different twist. Previews: Adrian Cox – “Sensory Garden” @ beinArt Gallery

Following up on his showing with two other artists last year at beinArt Gallery, Adrian Cox will be opening a show on June 3rd. For his first solo in Australia, the St. Louis-based artist has created a new body of work entitled Sensory Garden, oil paintings featuring his signature “Border Creatures,” hybrid creatures that live in the the wilderness of the “Borderlands.” Each character is an amalgamation of the environment around them including flora, fauna, and crystallized mineral deposits. Upcoming: “Potatostamp – 15 Years of Prints by Jeff Soto” @ Volcom Gardens

This Saturday, May 27th, Jeff Soto (interviewed) will be opening a retrospective of his screenprinted gig posters and fine art prints from the last 15 years. Hosted at Volcom Gardens in Austin thru June 18th, the exhibition will be Soto’s first in Texas and will be include over 60 pieces, spanning from 2002 to 2017.  Many will be available for purchase, along with show and fine art editions of the Grim Reaper, his newest print. Showing – Joys & Peeta – “My good old habits” @ Wunderkammern (Milan)

Currently at Wunderkammern in Milan, a joint show from Joys and Peeta is on view entitled My Good Old Habits. The new pieces are centered on the “vices and customs that we repeat in an automatic, predictable way, until they turn into tradition.” The two EAD crew members have contributed some individual works, Joys with his architectural forms that evolved from his research into lettering and Peeta with his signature three dimensional graffiti. Showing: “What In the World: The Juxtapoz Edition” @ Urban Nation

Urban Nation in Berlin recently teamed up with Juxtapoz Magazine, and its editor Evan Pricco, to curate their latest edition of PM/events. What In the World: The Juxtapoz Edition is the title of the group show that opened on May 19th, further introducing the wide range of urban art that this upcoming museum will be showing and supporting. Openings: “Flourish” @ Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum

Over the weekend, the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Arizona hosted the opening of Flourish, a group show curated by Thinkspace Gallery. Over 100 artists contributed to the exhibition but the standouts for us were the murals from Esao Andrews and Nosego as well as a sweet hanging installation from Felipe Pantone. Previews: Daniel Arsham – “Crystal Toys” @ Galerie Perrotin (Seoul)

On May 25th, the Seoul branch of Galerie Perrotin will be opening a new solo show from Daniel Arsham entitled Crystal Toys. Continuing his unique practice of creating “future relics”, the American artist looks to be taking his work in a more whimsical direction for this exhibition, focusing his technique on childhood toys. Recap: Brendan Monroe – “Mammatus” @ Curator’s Cube

Earlier this year, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) held a showcase in Japan at Curator’s Cube entitled Mammatus. The exhibition in Tokyo featured several of the American artist’s distinctive ceramic sculptures and some of his organic black and white patterned drawings, which were complemented nicely with a wall mural.
